Fountain Pens

I have been using fountain pens since early high school, and it occured to me recently that the feelings I get when I write with a good fountain pen, or when I simply examine a well made model, are coming from the same source as the appreciation of a fine knife.

So, anyone else here fancies fine fountain pens?
Is there another passion that you feel that it has something in common with being a knifenut?

Costas

P.S. I also like classic cars, airguns and old cameras that all show good workmanship and quality- is it serious, Doctor?

My shirt pocket carries a William Henry T10CF next to a good Waterman fountain pen that makes writing a pleasure. Also in the pocket I keep an inexpensive Schaffer broad point calligraphy fountain pen, for when I want emphasis, a Pentel fine point pencil, and a cheap rollerball for multi-part forms.

I write about 10-50 pages a week (usually closer to 50 considering I'm both a Ph.D. student and I work 3 jobs). A fine fountain pen is indispensable. I own many, some fine ones by Cross, Deavanna, Waterman, and Parker, but my two favorites have to be the "vanishing point" (a retractable fountain pen by Namiki), and the inexpensive Frontier model by Parker. It has a smoother nib than models I own costing ten times more.

The new vanishing point model is out by Pilot, and it's even more comfortable than the original Namiki. See it at www.coloradopen.com

Interesting that this should come up now. I am considering selling my Montblanc 146, the next-to-fattest fountain pen. I wasn’t sure whether to head for one of the auction places or to give it a shot here on the forums. Think I ought to post it?
