Four Beauty for 3/5

I want a FF really bad, going to be swimming and taking a quick bite, if that ever shows up!

Grats on a fine score Shavru, some good looking stuff there going to serve you well for sure.

Thanks Pugs, Looks like I am even happier I got these. if a FF or KVULK comes up it is going to be a massacre around here LOL. Fortunately I am feeling pretty satisfied about now :joyous:

very pretty knife, is chianpur a location? didn't find much info on the particular blade but im excited to see it :)

I believe it is a location or district in Nepal.

Some other forumites, I am sure will verify, and/or correct me, because honestly, I am not 100% sure.

Yep Chainpuri is a location. They are beautiful but nice and robust though more a weapon than a chopper. And mine sings sweetly when I swing it through the forms. beautiful wood sheath too, but be careful of the point on the sheath it is REALLY sharp. I am trying to decide best way to round off the point a bit without damaging the rest of it.

got the chainpuri in earlier today(fast shipping holy cr@p!)
the thing is beautiful, and very sharp will post a few pics of it in a new thread later on
i took it to a big cardboard box and can say it is a pretty serious weopon, im hoping it will prove to be a useful tool as well as long as its not pushed too hard..i feel like small branches shouldn't be a problem for it..

What are you doing playing with your wife's knife?;)

thats a good question, shes more amazed with the sheath than the blade, she was more than surprised when she got her first triangle box :)
luckily i get to play with the blade a bit but im not allowed to touch the sheath :) at least when shes awake(right now she is napping)
im pretty sure i made a good decision for a lady khuk, it is well balanced and drop dead gorgeous(its a pretty lean blade, similar to the look or a suripati). i may have to get a leather sheath made for it so shes not worried about messing up the original sheath.

Frankly I was more in love with the sheath than the blade myself. Early on Auntie posted some with those beautiful sheaths and some highly engraved and beautiful knives in them. I wish I'd hooked up with one of those.

That sheath really is a beautiful piece of work. I'd not feel safe just cause she's napping. Wives know everything, no getting around it. I've been scolded for stuff I only had in the planning stages and hadn't even done yet, somehow she knew.

With exceptional shipping speed the KK and KLSK are now in my posession. Ready for whatever tasks the daylight brings. Now I just have to find a worthy task.

Beautiful balance and I love the weight, each is perfect for it's roles

Quick question for those woodworkers and other knowledgable folks on here. I love the Kumar Karda and it has a Saur wood handle. I am considering trying to shine up the handle a bit, but I don't want to make it slippery or ruin the wood. Would a good danish oil type stuff be best? or a wax? or a varnish? or?? what would be the best way to polish up the handle without ruining the wood or the functionality? Or is it best on a working knife like this to just leave it alone? I am kind of thinking that if I don't coat it somehow, it will get a sweat stain handprint type finish after a few years and that might not look as nice LOL.

Some people like Tung oil, some people like Boiled Linseed oil. I myself like Tru-Oil, like on gunstocks. It's relatively easy to apply or reapply and makes a nice finish that is kinda glossy while still being grippy enough for use. On woods like satisaal, which can be a bit oily themselves, it is sometimes good to wipe the wood down with denatured alcohol before application.

Ive noticed the BLO will darken the wood and yes your palm sweat will stain the lighter woods. I had a twenty inch AK with neem and was very light and after use it stained like you say but only after a few chopping sessions. I lightly sanded it and it came out clear again. The I BLO'd it up a bit and the grain really came out wonderfully and was overall darker.

What a coincidence, I just put Tru-Oil on a KLSK DOTD Saur wood handle today! This is sanded to 320 with 3 light coats with OOO steel wool between coats. BTW the Saur wood is rock hard, the Tru-Oil barely soaked in.

Great info thank you guys. I do like the looks of that Tru-Oil on the Saur wood, not sure I want to darken it at all if that is what the BLO will do think I might stay away from that for this one. Think I will have to get some Tru-Oil and give it a try. Really brings out the grain nicely in that pic Cooper669.
