Four Bladeforums DE Shaving Starter Supplies Kits to Give Away

Thanks Gollnick! I haven't received the package yet, unless it came in the mail today. I purchased a boar brush and am looking for a razor. Are the badger brushes worth the difference in price? I think I saw where TGQ has some for around $50+.

There are some OK boar brushes, but boar doesn't hold water as well as badger does. So building lather takes quite awhile longer, and is also scratchier on the face although they do soften up with use. Badger produces a richer moister lather because of its water holding abilitys. I would reason that you'll end up getting a badger brush eventually anyways so you might just as well start with one. If your looking to save money a middle ground is Horse hair. Some people swear by Horse hair, because they say it doesn't hold the lather "to well". I've never used it, but know that Horse hair is standard in several of the remaining predominant wet shaving countries. Would stand to reason that it does its job. It used to be the standard in Europe and North America aswell, but was phased out due to anthrax concerns sometime around ww1. I don't know the specifics, or if that's still a valid concern.

Thanks Munky88. Sounds like badger is the way to go. This it the first time I have heard of a horsehair brush.

I received my package in the mail and was able to try out the new soap last night. It is "After Shave" scented and without sounding too feminine, it smells pretty darn good. Not flowery or too much like perfume. It lathered up nicely and made for an enjoyable shave.

I was using the cheap soap from wallyworld at first. I thought that was fine. Then I splurged and bought another brand online and man was I impressed. I wish I could remember what the brand was that I have been using but I can't. It is a sandalwood scent.

The difference between the sandalwood and the sample I just received was almost as impressive as the difference between the cheap walmart junk and the sandalwood.

Gollnick also sent a bic razor as well. Along with the new soap it was like a whole new shaving experience.

I will be making an order for some more of this soap and most likely for some other items as well.

Thank you for the chance to try this out.

I'm sure somebody can ID that for you. Was it Soap, or Creme. if it was soap did it come in a tin, colored plastic tub, or as a puck by itself?

It was soap, in puck form that came in a dark wood bowl with a lid. I guess if I figure it out I should write it down somewhere.

So why worry about that old stuff. Just order up a puck of TGQ sandlewood. If that other stuff came in a fancy wood bowl, then I can all bit guarantee you TGQ will be less expensive too.

Anyway, I'm glad you like AfterShave scent. I've never tried it myself. I'll have to order some in.

I received my beginner's DE starter set from Gollnick Friday night and shaved with it for the first time this morning. I used a Dorco blade and Whiskey flavored shaving soap from the starter set. I was kind of apprehensive using the razor, but it gave me a good shave without any damage. The end result easn't much difference from the Fusion I have been using, but it was more enjoyable. I was also more careful this morning than usual. Lathering up the soap and the shaving was a pleasant experience. Much more so than my usual shave which seems to be a job. Look forward to doing it again tomorrow.

I learned several things. The size of the coffee mug I put the soap in is important. Either too tall or the mouth was too small, because I hade a little trouble gettng the brush to the soap. I also noticed my razor is much shorter than the Fusion. Not sure yet if that helps or hurts. Will also try different flavors of soap when the Whiskey runs out.

Geo F. Trumper. I think refills can be bought aswell. You could also melt down TGQ soap and poor it into the container.

I think I'll order up some of the TGQ soap. It gave a better lather and I liked the scent better.

I couldn't find the aftershave scent on the website though.

You, sir, are one of the first people in the world to shave with TGQ Aftershave Scent. It's not released yet. So, you'll just have to call 'em up and beg for more.

Ahhh, I see.......sneaky suckers. Kinda like dope dealers, giv'em the first bit free then they come crawling back for more.

If your first DE shave with a fairly mild blade was as good as your Fusion shave, imagin how much better your DE shaves will be once you perfect the techniques and find the best blade for you? It's gonna be great... and even if it isn't, think of the money you will save; Dorco blades cost about ten cents each vs. four or five bucks for a Fusion cartridge. If you can get thirty shaves from a Fusion cartridge (most guys report six to ten) and only three from a Dorco blade (most guys get four to eight), you will still be saving 75%.

Stick with it and De will quickly get faster, easier, more comfortable, much better, and cheaper too.
