Four Blems for 5/5-- Pix and Awesome buys

Congrats on picking up a great Siru for that price the little crack in the handle should be easy to stabalize. If you don't already have the skills, you could take a look at early posts if you haven't already about caring for and fixing the horn handles and keeping them treated so they don't split more.

I have been reading a lot of the material available on this forum and on the Himalayan Import web site to learn more about khukuris. Lots to learn! I live in the desert (Albuquerque, New Mexico), so I guess I'll need to periodically treat the horn with a moisturizer like lanolin or hooflex - any other suggestions? As far as stabilizing the crack, I was going to wait until I got this sirupati, and then post up some pictures of the crack and ask for advice. I was figuring on using epoxy or cyanoacrilate? As a total noob when it comes to khukuris, I'll be grateful from any advice from the more experienced members of this forum!

Yup. Do the "So now per this" line. Send what you want to the HI email, that goes directly to auntie, probably should let her know the shipping address so she can calculate shipping.

She will respond with a "Done Deal" = you got it, or "Long gone" = bad news.

She may have another or something similar. If you get the done deal she will advise of the shipping cost.

She posted yesterday that she was very busy, so might have to be a little patient but she never fails to respond ever.

Yep Sean, now the anxiety begins. Until you finally open the email and read Done Deal you don't know for sure that you got the DotD or if someone beat your to sending in the email. We usually post when we send in emails but there are some stealth sharks that don't so you are never positive.

I used to use Paypal exclusively as that seemed easiest, however recently someone mentioned that Paypal is anti-gun and refuses gun related transactions so since I don't want to pay them a fee for their refusing to allow people to use their own money to purchase a legal item, I am now starting to convert where possible from that. (Unfortunately not all people can take CC transactions so paypal still gets some of my business) If that matters to you or not is your business and Auntie is able to accomodate either choice you asked about just as easily.

Good Luck! Hope you get your "Done Deal" email soon.

haha, on pin's and needles here!!

even tho I shouldn't be as she pretty much said she would mail it to me today, so I sent her my name, requested kuk, mailing address. I am just waiting on her to confirm my total and also to let me know how to pay her!!

Did see that she was very busy per her post the other day... but I just wanted to make sure she wasn't waiting on me.. as I don't really get how Gmail works and so thought maybe I missed something..

but it sounds like I just need her to confirm my total and advise me how to pay her to get this sealed!

thanks!

And you don't recommend just blindly sending in my payment right? I should just wait for her email with my confirmed total and all that before paying her in PayPal right?

Yes, one should wait for confirmation before sending payment.

Don't send a payment without hearing that it's a Done Deal from Yangdu. If she says it's yours and tells you the shipping cost, then go ahead and make the total payment (she might just give the shipping cost instead of the total).

well after 24 hours I still had not received anything.. so I sent another email asking for confirmation..

all I got back was a reply stating my total... $91

I said FUDGE IT, you only live once and I sent my payment w/o a full fledged email confirmation(only had 1 email stating she would mail it, and 2nd email simply said, $91)

I have full faith this will all work out as I see nothing but rave reviews all the time!!

Here's to my 1st Kukri!!

Sometimes she will tell you she will ship today but of course that is pending payment received. If you hear "done deal" its yours as long as you pay for it and she will ship next time she goes to the post office after payment received. Id say if you paid the proper amount you got it! Congrats!

Received my sirupati today, and it's even more impressive than in the picture! It's absolutely beautiful, and I'm delighted with it! Somehow I thought that it would be thinner, but it's a full 3/8" thick at the point where the spine bends. Now back to my questions - the horn handle has several cracks, and I'd like to glue them to stabilize them before adding moisturizer to the horn, so what's best to repair horn - epoxy, cyanoacrilate, or something else??? I've read in other posts that cyanoacrilate will dissolve the laha "himalyan epoxy", so should it be avoided?

Use CA glue or black epoxy. If using epoxy, use a toothpick to get it down in there. I would tape off as close to the crack as you can get so the epoxy doesn't get all over. Let dry, sand and polish to match.

Thanks for the information guys! I looked though the main forum, but didn't think to search in the cantina.
