Four days on the Algonquin Western Uplands trail

Looks like a great trip, Mike! So now that the new knife has gotten dirt time, anything you would change?

Good question. I would definitely go for a 'true scandi' grind on the portion nearest the handle. The current configuration has a small micro bevel (which works great, mind you). Also, I can see situations where having a lanyard would be a good idea, so I might add one of those. Finally, last weekend's fish cleaning made me think that adding a finer point might be useful in some circumstances.

All the best,

THe pic with the sickle moon over the lake... Was that Maggie Lake? I remember that place like yesterday and it was 20 years ago.

I'm pretty sure that it was Maple Leaf Lake. The shots of the gorgeous sunset were taken at Maggie, though. What a beautiful lake. There's a campsite on a rocky point on the east side of Maggie where you get near-perfect camping conditions - the wind takes care of most of the bugs, the fishing is decent, and the views of the sunset are awesome. I didn't stay there this time, but I have been there a few times in the past.

Did you hike in or canoe? The canoe camping spots on the large island in the middle of Maggie look very nice.

All the best,

- Mike

Man....you took me back 25 years!
That's how I started "training/testing" my wife!
Now we both have bad knees but wonderful memories.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing. Especially appreciated when I'm bottled up in the apartment facing a weekend of work for Monday!

Awesome thread, great pics!
I really regret not going up to Algonquin when i lived in Ontario.
Mentor you are very lucky to have a woman who is into camping!
:)

I hiked to Maggie as I recalled I camped there twice and the first time swam out to a small Island. THe swiming was great and the sunsets are amazing. The canoe trip to take is Barron Canyon on the east side of the park.

This thread makes me mad.
What a wonderful outing, and the pics are really amazing!

We have rain all day long and every day these several weeks.

Thanks for the kind words, gents. I'm glad that I could inspire a few of you to reminisce about past excursions to Algonquin.

Fujita yuji, if it's any consolation, you regularly make the rest of us jealous with your beautiful photos of outings in Japan. On this trip, I was actually hoping for a night of rain, just to give my girlfriend the experience of drifting off to the sound of rain hitting the tent fly overhead (such a tranquil noise)! Alas, we didn't get any night-time rain. But, the two of us went hiking on the Bruce trail this afternoon and we were absolutely drenched by a torrential downpour. Which was fun.

All the best,

- Mike
