Four Fave Spyderco’s

Right now, it has to be these. The Desert Ironwood M4 Dodo, milled copper Rex 45 PM2, dual-clip TiCN Waved Matriarch 2 with ring, and all-black Yojumbo! This will change next week though, when my flared Titanum blurple scales come in properly installed on my S45 PM2, as well as some amazing wooden scales, probably for Maxamet or 10V, shall be accordingly updated... And, once I get a real quality Millie or Millie 2, made for me. That, too.

Here are mine 4,post your favourite four!

Sorry but I can't "play" because there's reallly no way that I could limit a list of my "favorite" Spydercos to just 4.

You and others have already posted pics of around 10 Spydercos that would be among my favorites.

I currently own 160 Spydercos and I recall that I once posted a list of my "Top Ten" Spydercos in 10 different categories based on a similar "request." So, I could probably list around 40 favorites but certainly not just 4.

LOL! ;)

I know, the four limitation drives one crazy.
I am planning to start a thread, once a few more knives come in, about what particular "collections" and personal trends people have with Spyderco, whether it is focused on pre-2000 knives, Wharncliffe blades, reverse-S blades (As all these are what I personally collect, ha), and I hope to see some pics of your fantastic Police collection when I do start the thread!

No need to wait. Here's a pic of my matched 3 knife VG10 Gen 2 Police set:

According to SpydieWiki, the Gen2 VG10 variation was the only Police model of any generation to include a PS blade option.

I also own this PE Gen 2 Police w/the word "Police" but w/o the Spydie "Bug" etched on the blade that I sometimes carry. It got bumped from the set above when I found a suitable replacement that matched the others.

PS: These alone are 4 of my Spyderco favorites. LOL! ;)

The Police has got to be the only "Billboard" knife that I really like. The Millie is okay too, when it had that, but the Police look, saber grind and logo, is iconic to me. They really did it well, hard feat to pull off!
I'm actually quite regretful newer Police models don't pay some homage!

Wasn't too hard to find and, actually, the lists that I previously posted were for the Top 3 in 22 (mostly "made up") categories. I could easily "make up" a new set of lists w/a top 4 in each category now.

My intention was to be humously sarcastic in listing SO many knives in SO many different categories, which is still my intention now. It's just a reflection of the "diversity" of the type of knives that Spyderco has made and that I own.

I'd make some changes based on the passage of time and changes in my collection but here they are as they were originally listed. Note: After a knife was listed in 1 category, it was not used in any other even though there were a # of knives that fit more than 1 category.

I did at one time own all of the knives listed and still own "most" of them plus others not previously listed (except for the Szabofly that I'm still trying to find for a price that I'm willing to pay). I have only sold a few that no longer deserve being listed based on what's currently in my collection.

When I first got into this hobby I had an aversion to plastic knives, but after carrying LW Spydercos and growing to love them, I now think it is the ideal configuration for me when it comes to the utilitarian cutting tools that Spydercos are.

Heads and above the rest for me at #1 is the LW Manix

Next, and probably my most carried Spyderco because I carry one daily is the SE Dragonfly. I find that carrying one of these along with a primary folder adds alot of utility to my carry, while going unnoticed in my back pocket until needed. I have done a few blade swaps of the SE blade into different models, but my most carried is just Salt yellow with a fade dye job.

I have to put the Pacific Salt in there. I really enjoy kayaking and get out as much as I can, from the Atlantic Ocean and mangrove marshes back home in Florida to lakes in the PNW where I currently live the majority of the time, and over the years the Salt series has served me well.

Fourth I'm going to put my most recent, the Stretch 2 in K390. I bought this one just to try out the steel, and went with the Stretch because it was a model I had yet to experience, but man do I really dig this knife. I put a subtle blue fade dye job on it, a patina on the blade, and flamed the hardware; and I've been carrying this one more than I ever expected to. This spot could be taken by whatever knife I get in the honeymoon period with next (I intend to get a Para 3 LW when the perfect combo/opportunity arises), but I like the Stretch so much I'll put it here for now.

How does the ss feel in use ?

I was tempted to get a ss se police. The ss was questionable due to heat retention and if sweat or wet conditions effected grip.

I personally like it because the smooth body slides easily in and out of my pocket but I do have to be mindful to grab the knife properly to avoid dropping it.

It's not "slippery" but it is smooth (much smoother than anything else you'd probably carry), so this requires some attention. I don't have "sweaty" hands, so that's not an issue for me either but, if you do, it would be something else to consider.

Not sure if Spyderco is currently making a fully serrated Police model or not. The only 1 currently available from Spyderco is a partially serrated version.

SpydieWiki's data on the Police does not reflect the current S/S model -- which should at least be ID'd as Gen 3 -- that has the 4 way clip mount holes drilled into both sides of the scales and it also does not mention the currently available blade options.

If you like the clean look of my set, you should look for a Gen 2 which has no additional clip mount holes (other than the one being used) and has camferred edges and a choice between PE, PS or SE blades in VG10 only. The Gen 1 (which is very rare) has no holes and straight uncamfered edges.

Gen 2's often come up on EB for what I think are reasonable prices. In fact, I currently see over 5 different SE Gen 2 Police models being offered for sale there now. Check it out.

I can come up with only three if that's OK:

- K390 Endela: as a pure work horse at home (where most knife use happens). It does not cost a limb. It is lightweight enough. It has a sufficiently long and strong blade (but not too long) for all tasks that I need a folder for. The K390 steel keeps a work edge forever.
- K390 Delica: as a small EDC folder. It's super lightweight, easy to carry, does not cost a limb to buy, and I already said about the K390 steel.
- S30V Paramilitary 2: as a mid-size EDC folder. It is reasonably elegant, does not cost a lot to get (only about $120 when I purchased it from knifeworks), size is about at the sweet spot as an EDC folder.

I have tried/owned most of the fancier or more expensive ones mentioned by far in this thread, but this list is where I am at currently and will less likely change in the near future.
