Hi all,

I just received a package from member FORTYTWOBLADES (Benjamin). All knives were inspected (per Benjamin's strict guide lines) and (I believe) all sharpened by Benjamin. While ALL four knives were VERY sharp.....can you guess which one was THE sharpest of the four knives ?

1). SVORD (Orange) Mini Peasant

2.) BECKER BK-14

3.) OPINEL NO. 8 (Stainless) Olivewood

4.) TOPS BTK (Bird Trout Knife)

What an awesome evening.....I am LOVING all four of these knives! Each is super sharp and unique in it's own way but, I find one that is SCARY sharp! I am putting the knives aside for now and I will have myself another dram of "Irish Whiskey". I'm going to kick back and watch 24 tonight and later.....check out all four knives as if it were the first time I opened the package. Thanks again Benjamin.

Vote #4 for the Opinel. They should all have about the same edge sharpness if Benjamin sharpened them all, so the Opi's thinner blade would win in a strict cutting test.

Hi all,

I will reveal the answer later tonight.....shortly after ten p.m. Thanks for playing along.

Hi all,

Well.....it appears Blade Forum members must be THE smartest Knife people on the web.....(and I thought this was going to be tough).
Yes indeed.....the correct answer is : The OPINEL NO. 8 (Stainless/Olivewood). This is my first Opinel and it won't be my last! Scary sharp!
So Opinel fans....which Opinel should I consider buying next ? The No. 8 appears to be (what I have always heard) the perfect "all around" size Opinel and perhaps THE best choice if you were going to only own one Opinel. That being said.....I think I'd like to own a "large" Opinel. What would be the next logical larger size up from the No. 8 ? Thanks again all for playing along.

I was thinking about getting one of those opinels to use as a extra kitchen knife for fruits & vegetables, but the main thing I'm concerned about is them rusting because my relatives will also be using them at my house while i'm gone and they don't know much about maintaining a carbon steel blade from not rusting, so do the opinels rust easily?

There are stainless steel opinel knives.

The carbon stain quite easily, but are easy enough to maintain for my tastes

For the price you just can't turn away from the Opie or the Mora.! I have the whole set of Opinel's and 3 Mora's and they all came very scary sharp plus they clean up good to boot.!!

Oooh.....I've got to get an Opinel 12! Just....because. Then again....perhaps a No. 10 ? If I had the "toy money" I'd buy the No. 13 for it's WTF factor.

Is it 12c27 or Inox? It's been a while for me. Mine is boxed up and "safe" somewhere I'm pretty sure. :o Those fine grained no carbide ( or no large carbides anyway) type steels are fine grained and can get really sharp. Eka knives with 12C, Douk Douks, and Mercator K55's are similar. Easy to sharpen, burr so clean you can hear it snap off at times. Not exactly "super" steels but they can take wicked edges nevertheless.

Hi Mas,

If you are referring to my new No. 8, it is the Olivewood model (nice looking handle) with the Inox blade.

My first Opinel was a carbone 8-good choice, next was a 10 slim in inox (great for food prep). Finally, however, I gave in and had to have a 12 carbone-it rates a WOW. Next in line will be a 12 slim inox in bubinga because...because...I must. :D

Hi all,

S&S....the TOPS BTK is a VERY impressive lil' (EDC) Belt knife. I think the designed was really well thought out. I have XXL size hands and this lil' knife fits me well. On the whole, I tend to like smaller (mostly) fixed blade knives. I think the TOPS BTK is a LOT of knife in a very small package. Katans....so....you're liking the 12 eh ? I'm sort of UN-sure what my next Opinel will be. The 12 looks good as does the 10. Is the No. 9 too close in size to the No.8 Opinel ? (I'd like to try a Carbon Opinel). Ahhhh heck.....I can't decide which size/direction (up or down) I should consider for my next Opinel. Arrrrr......is the
No. 6 too small ? Is the No. 10 too big ? Arrrrrr! lol This should be fun.
