Four years after order placed, my Skookum Bush Tool arrives...

I placed the order for this knife in 2011. I got an e-mail from Rod a few weeks ago letting me know I was next in line and did I still want the knife? I almost didn't know what to say. I see that people are selling their Skookum Bush Tools for double what they paid for them. These are a pretty good investment, it seems. Instant 100% profit. But this one is not for sale. It's just funny that it took so long!

Only 4 years?

That's a nice knife.
And yes, I saw it going for $600...demand and supply I guess.

Get some use out of it and let us know how you like it.

I wonder how it compares to the American Knife Company Forest Knife. Handles look a bit more chunky, so I guess more comfort when pushing hard. And it's O1 vs A2. Apart from that all best are off, I haven't a clue.

Beautiful knife, like that sheath too.
Hope you'll be using that beauty like you stole it ;)

I especially like this style sheath with rear center seam. I have a knife with a sheath like that over 100 years old and it has held up surprisingly well.

I believe he makes the SBT in your choice of O1, A2, or 3V.

Nice knife, but wow. 4 years wait for a pretty basic Scandi-ground blade? That just seems a bit excessive with so many similar out there. Congrats though. I sincerely hope you're thrilled with it after waiting for that long.

Nice looking tool!

That sheath looks like it would lend itself well to long thong/Baldric carry. A nice way to have your knife available, especially over winter clothes.

Go set about wearing that thing out, and give us some feedback as you progress.

Congrats on the grail!

Jk knives uses o1 and he could have got you that same profile a few weeks at the same hardness.

It is a good looking blade though, but 4 years?? Damn

To help the OP explain. A Skookum is like a Turley. There are two ways to get one. Pay big bucks for one on the Seconday market. Or take a ticket and wait in line. Usually many years. It is not the difficulty of the knife that takes the time. It is the amount of people in front of you. A small shop has a tough time handling the explosion of business when someone like Mors Kochanski says Wow! I really like this Skookum Bush Tool.

The shop owner, knife builder, has two options take them as they come. Do them him of her self and keep the quality high. Or start hiring other folks to do the labor. That usually brings with it, a drop in quality. At least initially.

You can get a lot of knives tomorrow or next week. But the fact remains they won't be a "Skookum Bush Tool"

I myself ordered a Forest today. Just to try the design. I liked the OPs blade so much I thought I would experiment a bit before actually seeking out an "Authentic Skookum" which the Forest is not. It will most likely be here by the end of the week. Guess what? It looks just like the Skookum. But it "IS NOT' a Skookum. Nor will it ever be.

Yes you can have a Mora, or another knife sooner, cheaper and easier. But I see no reason to pee all over a thread where the OP is happy and wanting to share his new knife here.

A skookum is again just like a Turley. If the OP decides it's not for him, he can sell it, and double his money in six months. Try that with a More or a even a Forest.

What happened to saying wow, that is a really nice knife. Good luck with it and use it in good health.

Why does it seem folks always have to pee in other folks cheerios these days?

YMMV,
LV

A fine looking blade indeed. I love that sheath as well. Congrats on the new steel.

+1
Lack of appreciation for things that are special that you may have to wait for? Everyone wants it....today! Guess that's why microwaves are so popular, but have absolutely nothing in common with the preparation of good food. Shrug

And that's the story!

I agree it would be nice to see more people understand and support other members love of great knives.

Nice looking knife. I really like the pommel. Long wait? I understand. I waited a year and a half for a Turley. When my number came up I decided I did not want to spend $500 on a knife. If I change my mind it will be another four years and more than $500.
