Boils are not bad enough. While I hope that the thief tries to sell the knife to someone who knows that it is stolen, I worry that this person stole this particular knife from Ed because he staked it out for himself like some of these guys who "commission" art thieves to steal a particular painting so they can hide it in their secret study and drool over it at night. This is pretty much a knife that cannot be sold in the U.S. or many places overseas because it is so well known.

Is it my imagination or is this happening more and more frequently?
What a drag - sorry to hear it.

I think Ed said he's had two knives stolen in 30 years, he thinks he's got a pretty good batting average.

I think one stolen is far too many.

If you can think of anything to help spread the word, maybe the harder we make it on the thief.

I got to hold that thing.
I can't say here what I'd do...........
Anyway, I'm going to copy that pic and post it on my site after I ask Ed for his permission.

Thanks for posting the photo, Phil.

I would hope Blade survellance might have been able to assist identifying this person. IF not, it speaks poorly for show security.

Very sorry for Ed. Hopefully we can help, all of us.
David

Thank you Gentlemen: In over 30 years of knife shows I have only had two stolen, I can not estimate how many thousands of the patrons of lady knife have passed by my table.

The exception that stands out so predominately is a fine tribute to the honest citizens of the world of knives. Dog bites man does not make news as the event is so common, but let man bite dog and the world hears about it.

I strongly feel that I could not have chosen a finer place to be than the world of knives, 99.9999% of our citizens are good honest folks and it is a fine place to be.

Detective Wade Wagnon of the Cobb County Police Department Precinct Three is working on the case and I have to say that I am greatly impressed by his competence, enthusiasm and happy to say the investigation is progressing nicely.

Sorry to hear about this, Ed. I know that you have put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this new knife pattern. It is unfortunate, but maybe it is time for some type of enhanced security at Blade. I dread the idea of bottlenecking the entrance even more by having the tag everything coming in and check everything coming out, but they may have to do that.

The officer at the door got right on the case, he was on the ball. I was slow to report it, at first I figured a friend was playing a joke on me. I asked him and he assured me he was not! Then I got serious and reported it, the five minutes delay was my fault or we could have caught up with them - maybe. He took a report, then detective Wagnon, who is a friend of Murray Carter and a knife enthusiast volunteered to take the case.

Sad news. These are nice knives. Hope they are able to help you out Ed. It was good seeing you there again.

I have been discussing knife crime with some friends from the Israeli police and their European counterparts.. These guys tell me that knife crime is extremely prevalent, and that most of the stolen property ends up in ex-USSR states, primarily Russia. Apparently there is a large market there. The big fear is that it will end up there.

Let's face it, if the knife appeared on the open market in the West, we would know about it. It's not like you can't distinguish it at first glance. Even on Ebay, enough collectors check the knives section regularly hoping for bargains. This community is honest enough to know that stolen knives are not a bargain.

I sincerely hope that Ed gets his knife back.

Sounds like the former USSR has become what Colombia was in the 1980's as far as the prime destination for stolen luxury items. As a result, today you generally can't import a used car into the country.

PhilL did an absolutely brilliant job putting together that wanted poster. His art stands alone and he is another who has shared his knowledge to help us to communicate visually in the world of knives.

I highly enjoyed the show, it was good times getting to meet new and old friends.

I would hate to see high up close and personal security at the Blade Show, I consider Blade Show to be one of our best family reunions. One of my grandmothers most memorable lessons was that when we honestly trust folks they will trust us and this is the way the world should be. We cannot let the few predators who enter destroy the most important aspect of the world of knives.

As this case develops I am impressed with the security at the Cobb Galleria.
You don't see it, visitors are not treated as criminals, but it is there.

Stink'n, Rot'n #%&*%#!! I DESPISE thieves. You just might get that knife back! I'm pulling for you.
Rolf
