Fox Golok

I followed the picture back to the website. They use N-690 steel. It seems to be popular with Italian knives. Extrema Ratio uses it, and the Italians making Ontario's Hossom Retributions and Spyderco's Hossom knives also use it. I think I read it's an Austrian steel.

I'm not familiar with that steel either, but, I'll tell ya what, that looks like a really good knife to beat the living crap out of.:)
(So much for my assistance to you ref. your metallurgy question.:D)

Swedish "960 Cobalt" contains 1.50 cobalt, .10 vanadium, 1.10 Molydbenum and 17.0 Chrome. I believe the RC was 58 in ER

I owned one for about two days. It was expensive ($200) and smaller than it looks. I believe that the sharpened edge was about 8.5 inches and it lacked the mass and size to be a good chopper. I sold it on Ebay. Much happier with a cheaper 12 inch Ontario machete. Bought it because like all of us I am on the eternal search for the ulitmate survival knife.

The N690 steel is made by Böhler

Thanks for the info guys. The steel doesn't sound bad, but I think I'm going to pass on the knife based on Zman's comments. Like Troop, I thought it was a big 15-16" monster (boy, it pays to read the specs or ask..).

Just curious, but the protrusion in front of the handle, with the hole in it, looks to be heat colored. Any reason why it would be?

Cutter,

I wondered about that too. I had a Muela Bowie that had that phenomena on the blade after I carved a hot turkey one Thanksgiving, a buddy of mine who is pretty smart said that it was just surface discoloration.... I really do like the way that Fox Golok looks....
