Bill86,

How does one get their 5.11 Karmabit waved?

Sorry for the newbie question but that was the only thing that has steered me away from that knife.

Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to learn a lot here. I have already. Thanks!

Honestly I would not suggest doing that and just get the real thing as you might damage that 5.11 Karambit. Just my thoughts. Also, the pricing on the FOX Karambit knives is reasonable.

I have the Fox Parong Karambit and it's a very nice, sharp, excellent knife. The fit and finish is very good for a 100 dollar knife. My complaint with it and also one that Richard Derespina expressed on his page is that the ergos deviate a good bit from his original design. The handle is too long for it to be comfortably wielded like you might a normal karambit. That's something to keep in mind as Fox may have also taken liberties with the design of their folding karambits as well.

If it were me , I'd look into the model 10 remake that was hinted at being released early this year on Derespina's facebook. The model 10 is easily small enough to EDC and you won't have to worry about a lock failure removing your pinky and ring finger because you went with a novelty folder.

Now look at this:

New Resized FOX Karambit Folding Kinfe:
Blade Specs:

As you can tell the knife is now a half inch shorter and they didn't sacrifice the Ring Size; it's still 22mm wide, so it fits just as nice. Now you have the best of both worlds, it fits smaller hands and also fits over your index finger nice and easy. Also it's a little over an ounce lighter. Actually, The picture (above) showing the Black G10 is that very model. It truly is a great knife... Later...

I own both the Fox and the Emerson, so I think I can help you out here.

Of the two, I certainly prefer the Emerson, mostly due to ergonomics. I have relatively small hands for a guy, so the slightly smaller ring on the Emerson is fine for me and I find that, on the whole, I have a better grip on the knife. The wave is slightly easier to work on the Emerson. Also, the lock on the Emerson feels more solid, though I haven´t put either knife through any rough work to actually test it.

That said, the Fox is a very nice knife with good fit and finish. It also has a few advantages over the Emerson. It´s cheaper (duh), less bulky (both knives are about the same size, the Emerson feels "chunkier" though) and it has a flipper, which is sadly lacking on the Emerson.

All in all, I can recommend the Fox for people on a budget or those of you who don´t like the chisel-grind on the Emerson.
Unfortunately the liner lock fails when you do a flail attack with it, that even a low amount of pressure the blade gives in and pulls in toward your fingers which makes the liner lock useless in a combat situation downward thrust or flail maneuver

Sorry, but then you have a fake one. I got a linerlock one and some other models but the linerlock NEVER fails on me. It's sturdy as hell.
