I found a kniife maker who said he will make me a knife out of a leg bone from one of the foxes I killed with my recurve last year. He said I need to give it to him after it has been antiqued. I have no idea what this is or how it gets done. Can someone help me?

He didn't seem too sure himself when I asked him. Does anyone know if anything needs to be done with a fox leg bone to use it as a knife handle?

i can put it in my stabilizer tank which would seal it. the marrow needs to be drilled out first to allow the polyurethane to soak in and for the tang to fit in. it wouldnt be much different than using antler.

Fox leg bone shouldn't be any different than deer bone that I use for handles all the time. I put the fresh legs (hair and meat still on) deep in my compost pit and let the critters take care of the messy stuff. This takes about a year to get right. Leaves a nice color/patina on the bone as well. If you don't want to wait that long, strip any meat, tendons, etc. and boil gently to get the marrow out. After it's good and dry you can use leather dye to make the bone look aged. I use medium brown and wipe it on and wipe back off until it's where I want it. Experiment on some other bone first to get the feel. Finish with a buffer and coat with some wax. I don't bother with stabilizing the bone, it's pretty tough right from nature. Here's an example done this way.
