Fox's Folly II- new models? To Yvsa and any interested...

I'm "new" to Blade Forum's Khukuridom... Yes, I am unalterably hooked on Khuks... In reading about the different Khuks being offered on H-I's website, and on Blade Forum, info on Fox's Folly caught my eye... Evidently the FF is about 3 pounds. I'm an old codger of almost 56, and 3 pounds is a wee bit stiff for these old tendons and joints... Anything planned for 2 pounds or slightly less?

Is there still interest in producing a slightly shorter, "lighter," Fox's Folly? I'd like to have something in the "combat" realm light enough to accompany my Chiruwa Ang Khola 16.5" beauty.

Also, if anyone has experience with the WWII and the M43, which one did they like better- and most importantly, "why?," I'd greatly appreciate it...

Oh, and one more "newbie to Khukuridom" question... Do you request Kamis, or do they only do specific models... I've heard about some Kamis doing thinner handles for folks like me with small hands...

Example:

My beautiful Chiruwa Ang Khola has exactly the same dimensions as my Khukuri House "Operation Iraqi Freedom Khukuri." Only differences between the two, as to specs and looks, is the finish, polish, wood, and weight. The Khukuri House OIFK is heavier. Both are quite capable blades for any kind of work, though my H-I Khuk is just too damned "pretty" to abuse- unless in an emergency... The OIFK has a slightly smaller diameter handle, and therefore is easier for me to use...

If I'm being to "wordy, " I apologize...

As stated, I'm reading as much as I can, trying to absorb as much as my small but very active imgaination can handle.

Opionions as to size, shape, weight, design, and Kamis vary- sometimes widely. Only one thing seems to be standard, and I agree wholeheartedly- the quality of Himalayan-Imports Khukuris have no superiors in the industry. Equals in quality to H-I, I believe you'd have to shop- they're probably out there, but they'll be few in number... Khukuri House has a "winner" in it's OIFK, that I mentioned above...

I believe Yvsa was "point man" on Fox's Folly II. Sir, is there any word on a Fox's Folly II? I'd be interested in any specs that you may have formalized...
Depending upon its weight, I'd be interested.

Thanks to all of you who have made me so welcome. Its been a wonderful, and I hope to remain here for a long, long time...

Carter, I'm really glad you're enjoying the forum.

But I have to admit on 'groaning' a little with the idea of another special project. Many forumites have not recieved their Foxy Folly's yet. Earlier, a 'lighter' out of spec version of the Foxy Folly arrived instead and these created their own problems as well.

IT is always up to Yangdu. I'm thinking it would be nice to see everyone get their Foxy Folly this time out first, before we beat the drum for a new blade.

Bura makes a BDC (?) if I'm recalling the initials of correctly, that comes close to your vision of another blade. These have been in 14" and smaller.

Hi Munk,

I'm kinda fixed on 15" to 18" for lenght...

Just what are the dimensions of Fox's Folly, and it's approximate weight? On one thread, I saw 3 pounds... That makes my Chiruwa Ang Khola a lightweight!

Do they make a BDC like knife in that 15" to 18" range?

Thanks,

Carter

That's the old FF that came out years ago. The improved version is 24 oz and I can't recall without my first cup of coffee in me what the length is. 17 or 18" I think. It should come up if you do a Search.

Yangdu just offered some Blems for sale that have the specs listed.

Hi Munk,

Is the whole production schedule sold out? Is it possible to get on the list for a "perfect" Fox's Folly?

Carter

17", 24 oz., traditional bolster, minimal cho creep, steel fittings - IIRC.

Carter, I don't know if getting on the list is possible or not - you'd have to ask Yangdu about that. With blems being given away for $95, though, that might be the way to go.

You guys never had it so good. I remember the wars to get ahold of a single M43. People had to wait years before successfully finding one on sale.

And then there was the FFF run (or "singing Follys") that were the about the same weight but about 21"

The FFF I got was, iirc, 21" and 21oz. :D

Munk, I think you misunderstood, at least initially. What he's asking for is what we are getting now: 17" and 24 oz. Carter, there haven't been any 3 pound FF for a very long time. Keep your eye open for one of the new model. Munk and a few other lucky guys just got 5 of them with very minor cracks for only $95 each, but the usual price was around $150.

Hopefully some more will be coming for folks who have not received theirs yet. You could always write to Yangdu and ask about getting one of those coming.

Regards,

Norm

Thanks Norm, I appreciate it. You're an old hand now and this is your forum- The Cantina is running well and with yours and others help we'll keep it that way!

Carter the blems that Yangdu posted the other day would have been perfect for you. My prototype is 17" and 31 ounces which was a bit heavier than what we requested. The blems are right in spec @ 17" and 24 ounces and I'm reasonably sure some more will be coming through.
It's never over until the fat lady sings and she hasn't sang yet.;)
There were supposed to be some extras made but they may not be in such demand now that the blems have come out in such abundance.

And as far as the blems go I'd just about lay you odds that you won't find the blem when you look unless it's a major crack in the handle.
The Chandan handles that have been in such vogue lately were once deemed unsuitable by Uncle Bill and he said that no more Chandan handles would be made because of their propensity for cracking.
There is never any second guessing the kamis.
Personally I like the Chandan even if it is prone to cracking.
The hairline cracks can be repaired with superglue and once repaired they aren't likely to crack anymore.

I just got my FF blem (from Monday's specials) today.

I have decided that Yangdu must own the US Postal Service. I don't know of any other company which can ship from Reno to Michigan in a day and a half.

My first impression was, Wow, this is so light for being so wide. It's those fullers that do it.

Unfortunately, being at school, I wasn't able to test it properly. All I had to cut up were some cardboard boxes. I don't have any sharpening equipment, either, so I couldn't get optimal performance.

Regarding the cracked handle, it actually looks worse than I thought it would. I think it took a major impact while being shipped, because there is a large (half-dime size) indent in the handle, with the crack radiating out from there.

I was expecting a hairline crack caused by wood shrinkage, or similar. Anyway, I don't have to replace the handle, just fill it with some superglue. Even if I did have to replace the handle, this knife would still be a great deal for what it cost.
