How would we fix a hairline crack like this?
Even though its not going anywhere, what might be the best way to make it disappear?

I've always used superglue with both wood and horn for fine cracks. The thin kind works best for me, as it wicks deeply into the crack by capillary action. I lay the tip of the glue bottle against one end of the crack and feed it in very slowly. When it gets full I stop. Immediately wipe off any excess with some acetone, or just with a rag if you don't have any. Let it cure for an hour or two and repeat as necessary until the crack will take no more. If it's a real fine crack nothing more is needed.

On very old horn handled pices where the cracks are 1/16" wide or more, I use a little superglue to penetrate deeply. Then after that is cured, I mix some black epoxy and fill it up, then sand off. Some folks use model paint for color, or you can buy epoxy colorant at the knifemakers supply houses.

For wide wood cracks use some sawdust of the appropriate color to add to the epoxy.
