I figured I haven't contributed much lately and wanted to get back into the community that helped get me started. After messing around and learning more and more I have made something that I am pretty proud of. I made a frame hidden tang knife with g10 for hunting season that went to a buddy across the mountains here in CO for his elk hunt so we could test out my knives. I used 1/8" g10 for the frame and 1/4" g10 for the scales and just finished them to shape and the first picture is how it came out.
I was pleased with the outcome but not totally satisfied. I really wanted the clip/swedge to look differently, the guard area to actually look like a guard and I wanted to try a different type of handle shape. So I created the this second knife to using all the little gotchas that I found for the first knife.
I had to add little non-slip pins inside the frame because when I was epoxying the first one, the frame area moved on me and was just a little bit off, not to mention that I almost epoxied my hands together. The guard is really just black g10 that was shaped to look like the guard and is 3 pieces. I realize that it wont be as strong as say 416 Stainless but I wanted to see how it would come out, and work.
I am actually really proud of the second knife. I think it is probably the best knife I have made to date finish wise. I am going to make some sanding sticks to help my fingers from getting eaten up from sanding, that is probably my next project.
What do you guys think?
