Okay, here is a silly question. Does the lock bar relief pocket/cut on a frame lock have to be on the outside of the scale for some reason?

I have heard it said by some that it is suppose to be stronger on the outside, but I almost always do it on the inside and have never had any issues. I believe it is more important that the relief have a radius rather than in side or out.

I'll echo Alan here. I've always seen them done on the outside but I prefer inside and have always done it that way. Never has a problem of any kind. I think it looks much cleaner.

I've seen it done both ways, have seen the question asked before, done it both ways myself, seems to be largely a matter of aesthetics.

I was thinking that if you want to sculpt the frame/scales, you would pretty much have to leave the cut on the outside.

It's not important, the thickness and transition is more important as well as the lockbar length.

I always try to keep the pivoting area of the lock bar as close to the center of the blade as possible. I put the relief on the outside of the frame.

I have a bunch of Alan's knives, and I can assure you they work flawlessly. One of my other favorite folder makers, is Sergey Rogovets, and all his are done on the inside--also all work without a flaw.

I'd try it whichever way I liked the aesthetics.

if you put it on the outside, once you shape the titanium/metal, and round the scale you wont end with a sharp edge,.
If you mill the relief on the inside, you will be in trouble.. or you wont be able to really round the scale.

with pictures it would be easier.. but i'm not able right now. sory! :Y
