Frame Lock Scallion

I just noticed that these new Scallions will have 420HC blade steel. Is that what the new production liner lock Scallions are using as well. I know that the Leeks and some other Kershaws have upgraded to the Sandvik offering this last summer, I had just assumed that this applied across the board on Kershaw knives.

I do want to state that this in no way will keep me from buying a few of these babies when they are available as I have never had a problem with any of my 420 Kershaws. Just trying to find out what the dealio is. Thanks!

Thanks! Like I said, I haven't had a problem with my 420 Kershaws and I'd buy at least one regardless of the steel used (of the steels that Kershaw currently uses of course). I was just confused.

whats is the average turn around time for something like this to be introduced and then ready for sale to us? I'm just trying to decide on a knife and if these scallions come sooner than later it would give me another option to choose from.

Time matters not in Kershawland...stare into this ...@...@...@...@...You will buy them all...it doesn't matter that you can't pay the mortgage...you must buy more Kerhsaws...@...@...@...@

Thats great news!! Time to cut the food buget so I can get a bunch of them.

First off, welcome.

It all depends with new models, some take longer than others. A Scallion is a model we have made for many years, so a new Scallion can be ramped up as quick as 45-60 days. So you will see the frame lock version in Feb.

Something like a R.A.M., which is a new model, and much more complicated can take 6 months or so prior to the first articles to hitting the streets..

Well, I took delivery on the frame lock Scallion (1620FL) yesterday. It is what I was hoping for...perfect size, very thin, nice lock-up and fast.

It carries better that my aluminum handle Scallion (1620H3) because it's thinner even though it weighs 3/8 of an ounce more...2 5/8 oz vs. 3 oz (verified on home scale). The extra heft gives it a nice upscale feel.

The one thing that "jumps out" as a big improvement is the speed of the AO. The blade opening now approaches "Chive" speed. Actually, the new Scallion is like a Chive on HGH. It is a bit bigger in every way.

ThomasW and Kershaw...Excellent work! Thanks, ft

Sounds good, FT! Love the framelock, but wish I liked stainless handles better. I prefer aluminum or G10 or Ti or FRN for handles generally...one handling of a stainless steel frame with my hands and it becomes a smeary, oily mess. :(

I have a Shallot and a bunch of Leeks in stainless anyway though, and I'd bet one of the SS FL Scallions will find its way to me too...:D

Anyway, enjoy...

Ray :)
