-I have a Spyderco Persistence I carry and use a lot, and it is relatively simple to take down and put back together. I have a few folders that are over a $100 right now, but don't really want to spend the cash. Sure the Sebenza looks great, and I was seriously thinking of getting a Sage 2, but I really don't want to spend that much on a folder unless I run into some decent cash. Can you give me a good frame lock folder under a $100?

-Let's see if you can meet this criteria Mwhaha: I want a very simple frame lock, but I also want the action to be smooth and the lock up to be solid. I want it to be an edc, so nothing that weighs like 7-8 oz. or more, and between 2.5-3". I had a cryo 2, but the the lock bar kept getting stuck under the tang when flicked open. I prefer non-assisted, but if its easily de-assisted, then no big deal. Can you meet this criteria under $75? Good Luck..Thanks a lot!!

I can't think of much for frame locks in that range, I may end up getting a mini griptilian..

Have you looked at the Kershaw/Emerson collabs? The CQC-1k, 2k, and 3k might be right up your alley. The 6k and 7k are even better IMO, though they're slightly over your size range. Alternatively, there's the Leek as well, but that's assisted.

Get the Kershaw Strobe. Technically it's a framelock with FRN scales attached. 3.25" blade is slightly over your limit, but the knife is thin and doesn't feel too heavy in hand or in pocket.

It feature's KVT bearings so the knife just flies out once it breaks that detent.

If you up your budget by $5-$10 you could get a Spyderco Sage 1. I can't think of a better frame lock in that price range.

I second the Kershaw/Emerson collabs. I don't own one but they look promising and I might have to pick one up eventually. Kershaw also makes several frame locks with assisted opening that are pretty nice knives but, like the OP, I now avoid all knives with AO.

A G Russell small skorpion. Frame lock, flipper, comes with regular and deep carry clip, 3 inch blade for 65 bucks.

If you're willing to bend on your length requirement, the Boker Urban Trapper retails at around $75.
  • Frame lock
  • 1.7 oz (only 25% of your requirement!)
  • Ball bearing pivot (smooth action)
  • Non-assisted
The only problem is that the blade is half an inch over your requirement.

Thanks for the help guys, and taking the time to respond, and even sending me a photo. I actually didn't know of the Emerson/Kershaw Collabs. The Cqc-6k looks pretty nice for the price. I'm actually going to pick up an ESEE Zancudo (or two). I'm digging the price and the stonewash. I like the desert, OD, and coyote brown. I almost actually picked this one up on my last bladehq order, but didn't get it. I've become more of a mid level--higher end fixed blade guy, where I'm going to want a tool or carbon steel, but would prefer an easy to sharpen stainless like aus-8 on my folder. I just wanted something simple to take down and a folder for light duty cutting. Thanks everyone, and thanks fetzer85 for the reminder :) I'm still open to suggestions as well, if you guys have any more.

A forewarning with the Kershaw Emersons; they like to snap closed fast. Nearly lost a finger at the third knuckle goofin around with one.

Thanks K.O.D., I've had a few kershaw spring assisted knives, and I think I know what you mean. I haven't had any close calls like that thankfully. Maybe that one is even more snappy, but anyway, thanks for looking out for me.

Went through several nerves, part way through the tendon. Got two beautiful stitches from it.
