We see to be having a lot of frame lock questions on here as of late, and alot about life span or longevity if you will. So how about those who have and use frame locks list their oldest frame lock still in use and report on the state of the lock? Lets hear about frame locks that are EDC's are used on a regular and continual basis, so we can get some numbers and maybe put some of these questions to rest. Also if some have had frame locks wear out, lets hear about those knives and how it long it took as well. I'll bet we have some EDC frame locks that will be over 15 years and still going strong, but lets hear from the forumites.

13+ year old small Sebenza EDC still going strong.

I have a kershaw chive that while I don't remember exactly, probably only lasted 6 months.

The frame doesn't even make contact with the blade tang now, you could slide a piece of paper in there. I have been meaning to send it back for a couple years just never think about it.

Going to be 12 years (in July,) with a Sebenza. I have used it hard, (hunting, camping, bushcraft, and EDC the entire time,) and except for the finish, it is as good as the day I bought it.

In my experience the standard in the industry by which all others are judged, the Chris Reeve Sebenza wears longer and more evenly than any other folder made. Its quite simply the best engineered folder on the market of this type.

My opinion.

For perspective here is my five day old CQC12. This scan was taken at four days old. Doesn't mean it won't last a long time but based on the amount of travel for the lock since I opened up the knife brand new it will be clear accross the contact in no time flat. I haven't really used it all that much yet except to make some fuzz sticks a couple times for starting a fire. The lock stuck terribly for the first three days also. Flat out wore out my thumb and didn't help my tendonitus much either.

I will vote and say.. My kershaw 0300 is wearing in even better than my sebbie did.. Or both of my brothers Seb's..Although the sebbie would not move past 95% with a gorrila grip. The sebbie moved to about 90% after a few days. After a few weeks of use and chopping with the ZT.. My frame has moved to about 50%-55% at its furthest point from the origional 30-40%.. And that is with hard use... I have not handled many others that do the same...It is impressively tight..

The Ti Framelock is my favorite lock.

The most wear I've seen to date is with the CRKT S-2.Also the lock on my Benchmade 635 has worn considerably.

I started a thread about this here.STR explained a lot of details & was very helpful.
