Frames with 110/112 blades

serrations might be able to be done with chainsaw file of the correct size, something I may have to try, even though I'm not a fan of serrations

I'm not either, but I do have a couple spare 110 blades here...I need some 120 grit drums for my Dremel anyway; I'll pick up a cutoff wheel and give it a whirl...

Hey Scott! - You have any particular preference for the length/spacing of your sawback teeth??? :D

Maybe we'll start a "blade passaround"... :p

If there is one...I'll bet there's only one! I found those prototype drawings somewhere in the BCCI archives and pieced that blade and handle together onto paper.
Trax, I'm sure you'll make it look great...your 110/112 in various combinations all look nice.

here is the orgional archive drawings..
now all of you know were the drop point came from...:D

I tried various setups last night...biggest problem is how to clamp it... :(

The only parallel surfaces with good area for clamping are right where the sawteeth need to be... :grumpy:

Anybody have any ideas???

I looked through my tools and I do have a cut-off wheel w/arbor...

I'm not steady enough to do it freehand...

...Freehand would work out kine "tacky" at best anyway Trax...If I had the equipment I might try clamping on the pivot end of the knife with the tip of the blade driven into a piece of lexan or acrylic that was clamped on the opposite end of the table. The lexan or acrylic would act similar to a dead center on a lathe holding the tip from moving. I'd think the lexan could be prepared to receive the tip by making the initial indentaion with the heated tip of a bad blade...This would keep the tip from moving whilst ya cut in the serrations perpendicular to the length of the blade...OR...merely two clamps...one holding the pivot end to keep things parallel and another holding the tip securely to keep chatter to a minimum...Jus' a thought...:D

:D

You have a drop-point Buck (or Phrobis) 186??? PICTURES!!! :D

if you look at the picts it is a Ti frame on both the holey one and the narlly drop point... only dif in 186 and 560 is a ridge milled on it and the removleable screws... btw: did you know the Ti metal the 186 and 560 were made from was from a company that could not use it as it was consitered scrap to them ? and the only diff on a 186 and a probous is the dolphin stamp?
but yes... i do own both of the ones in the above pict...

working on harden steel is risky as it can shatter or the tools you are useing can shatter !!! i have seen this happen in a machine shop i worked at once... any one atemmpting this PLEASE ware eye protection and a heavy heavy covering over any ware on your person it would be dangeress to have some thing penterate like your neck or lower.....

*Lots* more differences that that...bushings are different; backspring is different; blade hole dia is different; one half is tapped, one half drilled... ;)

But they look similar... :D

I was hoping you had one with sawteeth... :)

I have a scrap blade out in the shop it was broken and I tried to regrind it into a drop point, didn't quite turn out like I had expected, so I took the loking notch off the tang, made a backspring and made a slipjoint out of it, I have used this basically as my test knife to test out any new ideas on, I may try doing a partial serration on the blade later. might work, might not?

I admire you chickentrx, I have read though a ton of previous posts and really admire your creativity, skill, and tinkering projects, only bad thing was alot of your pics from posts (a year old or more) were dead. I look forward to seeing what you do with the sawteeth, not my cup of tea- but what tinkerer don't like a challenge? :)

The "Free" account at Photobucket has a ceiling which I've hit several times; I'm presently working on a couple of XM-607 rifles and those pics are pushing everything else out... :p:rolleyes::o

I'd love to see a gallery of all your 110/112 projects if you ever end up doing something like that.

wow i had no idear! :D that there was that much diffreances...
