There are aspects of the zt 0450 titanium that I like and others that I like better from the zt 0450 CF...

I'm thinking that someone may like to have the black DLC blade and green standoffs from my CF and I'd prefer to have the season finished blade and red standoffs.

Anyone interested in creating a mixture?

Full disclosure, I haven't bought the CF yet, so my components would be brand new. Would prefer the other side to be the same.

If it matters...there will be new standoffs for the 0450 on the market within the next couple of weeks.

Cool to know. Where will they come from? I am still not a fan of blades with a coating on them. I assume after some use the coating will begin to wear off...

you should look into what dlc is. so you don't assume incorrectly. just sayin. ;)

I've looked into it a bit, and I understand what it is, but I am still skeptical that 10 years down the line it is going to look great, whereas if the knife has no coating, it can always be cleaned up. Maybe I am wrong here... I will try to read up a bit more.

Beyond how well DLC holds up, I just like the look of the blade in steel vs dark.

So just to make sure I am understanding you, you think use that will wear away dlc, an uncoated blade will just be able to wash off?

I would think that would mark a non coated blade just the same. Personally I like the look of a well used blade either way.

As for your mix match on the 450, you could just buy both and then sell the other after you swap parts.

I would contact kershaw and see if you can have them replace the coated blade with a stonewash blade. I just had them replace the blade in my 0450 cost me 30 bucks and shipping one way. Don't know if they will swap coated for plain blade but worth a call.

If you don't mind blue standoffs you could always just track down an 0450cfzdp (non-coated ZDP-189 blade, CF scale, blue standoffs).

I have the 0450CF you speak of. I love the black coated blade however I was thinking the same thing about the standoffs but never got around to looking if anyone wanted to swap.

I will have to keep my eyes open for those. I would be very interested in that. I would rather keep my factory ones and swap on some.... holy crap I never even imagined it with Orange Stand-offs. Brace yourself for an incomming PM :D

NyfeStyles makes a very nice aftermarket CF scale for the ZT0450. That's the route I went. I had the Ti 450 shortly after it released and had modded it with a CF scale before the 0450CF came out. After seeing the official ZT CF scale, I actually think I like my scale better.

Also MXG Gear has milled clips and custom standoffs for the 0450. You might want to check them out.

The MXG standoffs don't locate in the scales...makes for a weaker construction and more potential of alignment issues.

RGT is going to making a new 0450 clip! I've been discussing it with him.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. I'm using the factory stand-off in my franken450 but have considered adding some custom stand-offs at some point.

Unless the blue standoffs are a problem, this (ZT 0450cfzdp) still seems like the best option to me:

Greg, unfortunately that knife isn't available anymore. They don't come up often on the secondary market either!

The 450 is such a fun knife to mod and carry....lots of options. In addition to standoffs there are g10 backspacers available for them, as well as Ti hardware. I afree that the ZDP was the best version to date, bummer it was such a limited run. I have also done several sculpted clips in various materials....So many options for this knife, its like a blank canvas:-)

If you do frankensteining, pay close attention to lockup, I have done a few and some of the lockface profiles may be slightly different. You may need to swap the lockbar insters as well.

My ZDP, with a makeover:

Here is the clip I do for the 450:

I ordered the cf scale and the olive green g10 backspacer but haven't gotten them in yet

Sorry to sound uninformed but who is RGT and how can I get up with them
