Frankenstein zt 0450

Yeah, that CF clip is pretty slick, Rival. How's retention?

RGT is Ripp's Garage Tech. Don't bother contacting yet...he's not caught up enough to work on them, but will be at some point in the near future.

I've looked into it a bit, and I understand what it is, but I am still skeptical that 10 years down the line it is going to look great, whereas if the knife has no coating, it can always be cleaned up. Maybe I am wrong here... I will try to read up a bit more.

Beyond how well DLC holds up, I just like the look of the blade in steel vs dark.

I can almost bet you any money 10 years from now you won't be owning this knife, in collection or in use... I have been collecting knives for 10 years and every time I found one that I think I'd keep forever..... truth is there will always be newer technology, better looking, shift of taste in knives as time goes by... (handle shape, deployment method, blade geometry,... etc...)

Black coated blade show the best character when all scratched up that's why ZT and other manufacturers have "black wash" models. Very much like stone washed jeans.

For me it's the same mentality as jeans, you can spend extra money and buying one that are made to look worn and with holes or do it yourself with a new pair of Levi's and put your own marks on it.

Retention on the CF clips is pretty good. It took a few prototypes to get something that looked good and was strong, but they hold well in the pocket.

NyfeStyles makes a very nice aftermarket CF scale for the ZT0450. That's the route I went. I had the Ti 450 shortly after it released and had modded it with a CF scale before the 0450CF came out. After seeing the official ZT CF scale, I actually think I like my scale better.

I was just checking out their site and noticed they offer their "standard" glossy finish and a matte version. Which one did you get?

I went with matte. It seems to offer a little more grip. I'll try get a picture up later.

I ended up ordering the matte, too. Bought it Wednesday, it arrived Friday, and I put it on in 20 minutes Saturday. Just excellent quality and the washer to go between the scale and bearing chase plus the two black screws were a nice touch. I posted some glowing feedback and a mini-review over here.
