Frayed pocket hem from clips?

I've noticed that the jean material seems to fray easier than the material of my BDU pants.

Hell I buy some pants with already frayed pockets or cuffs. I just cut the longer threads off and not worry about it.

My left pockets are all frayed from my hand sliding in there to get my phone out, each pair has the same frays/fading on them from the things I carry. I don't pay too much attention to it.

Well, in my experience only knives with G10 handles tear up pants, and boy do they do it in a big way. Not only fray the hem, but also put a hole wherever the bottom of the knife is (the AFCK especially does this). It'd be pretty easy for a knife maker to make it so it doesn't fray your pants: just ask Sheaffer. Back in the day, when Sheaffer was an American company still owned by its founder, they had clips that were on a spring hinge at the back. These would never fray pocket hems.

I had my wife sew on some leather on one pair to repair the fray but it made getting my clip to slide over it that much more difficult.

I just wear baggy shirts now so she can't see it and complain. If she had her way Waved knives would be banned in my household. :jerkit:

I have a bunch of jeans so the wear on them isn't to bad, but I kinda like the look of the frayed jeans where the kniofe goes...as previously said, it adds character.

The pants I wear almost every day were designed with a pocket clip in mind. The bottom corner of each pocket has an extra piece of heavy canvas material sewn over the pocket to protect it. They have double knees and seat for extra durability, both a snap and button closure, and have a very secure/handy magazine pocket that I can put a second (or third) knife in and not worry about it falling out when I'm out camping and don't carry my cellphone in it. Very high quality pants. I own three pair.

If you don't mind compromising your personal style, Wrangler sells jeans with a leather patch on the right-front pocket. It supposed to be for measuring tapes, but probably works just as well for knife clips.
I have a pair of these jeans, the extra thickness makes for a very tight knife draw from pocket. I suppose you could tweak the clip some, but then you would have a loose fit on your regular pants.

Well, I carried a Kershaw Blackout for years with no fraying. I recently upgraded to a Kershaw Spec Bump and in just a couple of months, my jeans pockets are all fraying.

I mostly carry a BM707, and my work pants (mostly khakis and cords) are all frayed. Later this fall I plan to replace the G10 inlay scales with wood, stabilized wood, or micarta. Hopefully this will help. I don't really like the fraying; I try to be frugal and it irritates me that perfectly good pants are having the pockets sanded off!

Even my aluminum-handled BM722 frays my pockets. Are wire clips easier on the pockets? Are certain scale materials/finishes easier?

Some people actually pay extra for pre-frayed jeans. Ours are more special, because the manufactured pre-frayers don't usually focus on the pocket edges.
That is our special frayed badge.
