Freakin love cpm-m4, 2 knives same steel 2 very different knives

What do you think bead-blasting would do to it?

It'd make sure it rusts on you. Bead blast is a nice way to turn a stainless steel into a rust bucket, never mind a non-stainless.

On patina, I couldn't get vinegar to work well, but ferric chloride does

edit: ^that was thrown in a tumbler with ceramic stones for a little while after the etch. It was all dark before that.

I'm still trying to figure out what people are talking about regarding the Contego being rough on the hands.

+1, I think the grip is excellent. I must admit though, I use my hands for work so they're pretty beat up and tough. Perhaps if you don't have workers hands it may hurt a little bit. Not trying to offend anyone, we're all different.

I loved my GB. It was great! I never had any rust issues either and all I ever used on it was a tuff cloth. I had one tiny speck of rust inside of the spyde hole, but it cleaned up pretty easy.

I regret getting g rid of this blade until this day.

The Gayle Bradley has, hands down, been the best work knife that I've used. I've tried many, many knives. The only thing I don't like about it is that its opened in my pocket a number of times. I usually have other things in my pocket and they've been known to grab onto a Spydie hole here and there. That's the big peeve I have with Spydieholes... keys fit into them nicely and act as an anchor when they do. I wish the Bradley had much more resistance to opening, it's too buttery smooth for my tastes. No need for buttery smoothness in a work knife for me.
Yep, I have a Contego, too. In my work environment it is clearly outperformed by my Gayle Bradley. I do wish Benchmade would make the steels as hard as they claim. I guess softer steels would be less prone to breaking... I guess... but I want an edge that'll last a full day of usage without having to be touched up. The roughness of the Contego's scales is ideal for my blue collar hands but the ergs just don't feel right to me. Too narrow towards the front of the handle... feels pencil neckish for how much blade you're getting. I have an Adamas 275 in D2 that I prefer over the Contego as far as ergs and grind. I wouldn't think twice about it, even though I freakin' LOVE M4, I would definitely take the 275 over the 810 any day of the week.

me - my 2 cents

Oh, and the rust 'issue' with the GB isn't an issue with me. Once a fog came over the job site and it got a layer of rust quite quickly, but it has not done it under similar circumstances since. I forced a patina on it, maybe that's why.
