I happened to mention Fred Perrin in another post here, and it just occurred to me that he is a noteworthy discussion topic.

Fred designed the "La Griffe" neck knife, makes custom balisongs, and is a well-known knife reviewer. Here is his site:

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Set/2292/main.htm

There's a little animated .gif there that demonstrates some of his skill with the bali.

Anyway, I hear that the man is a big--big fan of the balisong, that it is his favorite type of knife. With that in mind, perhaps we can coax him onto the forums somehow...

urban legends say that MO. Perrin is the greatest balisonger (fighter? or acrobat?) out there. I dunno since things changed when I saw Clay in action. No dissrespect intended btw.

I doubt he can come to mthe forums cause 1. he travels a lot and 2. he doesn't have internet access. He does make Custom balisongs though in the 500.00 range..

Yes, I certainly didn't want to start a "who is the MAN" thread.

It seems as though all his contact with the internet is made through that fellow Nemo, who pops in from time to time.

A couple of things.

First, Fred doesn't have direct internet access himself. That is why "Nemo" usually posts for him or on his behalf.

Secondly, Fred does make nice balisong knives. I've seen some of his own and a very nice one he made for Nemo while visiting them in Paris last Spring.

Fred is a magician with a balisong. He gave me and my wife a show with first one then two at the same time that was a joy to watch. I can't imagine approaching that level of mastery regardless of how long I might train.

So, the long and short of it is that as nice as it would be to have Fred on board with us here, it ain't likely to happen anytime soon.

I'll make sure he sees the thread though. Maybe he'll get motivated. (One can always hope.)

Fred, is a really nice guy! A couple of years ago he did a very quick demo at the NY Custom show (off in the corner with his back to the crowd, didn't want to freak anyone out) and I can attest to the fact that he is most excellent with the balisong.
