I recently upgraded my etching set up so I am offering my home made set to some one just starting out. It consists of two units, one does the deep etch and the other leaves the black mark. I will include everything you need to get started and one of my stencils that you can take to a vinyl sign shop to have your own made. I will ship them both to the 1st newbee who says "I'll take it".

WOW, one minute.. You are quick on the draw !!! Send me your address and it will go out on tuesday..BTW what is your name??

My name is stanley, ive been around for a while learning as much as i can, i asked you about your log splitter press about a week ago, it was awesome. i sent a message off your contact section of your page. i hope it worked.

That's pretty cool. Wouldn't you know it? The first time I've been off this forum in about a year (ha ha) and look what comes up. There's probably about fifty of us newbies going, "aw shucks." Good for both of you. Looking forward to seeing what you get going Stanley.

rocketmann, I know I'm late for the units :( but... am I late also for your diagrams and info? have you a "project" on file you can send me? I would like to build an etching machine and the "rocketmann double unit etching machine" seems interesting! :D

The etcher units are really just transformers that I had laying around from old cordless phones and electrical devices that I cut the connectors off of and put an alligator clip on one wire for the ground and a little home made handpiece on the other wire. For the handpiece I took a 1/2" wooden dowel and drilled a 1/8" hole in one end about an inch deep, then I took one of the wires and wrapped it around a screw that fit the 1/8" hole. Put a 1/2" washer on the screw and screw it into the hole, that makes the contact end for etching. Then I secured the wire to the dowel by wrapping it with electrical tape....For the deep etch I believe that I used a 800milliamp ac to dc transformer, and for the the one that leaves the black mark I think that it was a 1000milliamp ac transformer. Don't get too hung up on the milliamps I just used what I had on hand and it worked great. You may have to experiment with the wires to see which one should be the ground and which one is the lead.. here are some directions that I typed up to go with the unit..
