Hi guys... Been a while since I was last here... Hoping someone can refresh my memory:

Some time back there was a discussion around heat treating information and someone posted the details of a company who had a little booklet which they posted to you for free, gratis and for nothing.

If anyone recalls the company name, the link, or the booklet name, I would be grateful if you could let me know

Regards

Lang

the seco booklet isn't that great - it doesn't have a detailed tempering graph the various steels.

Yeah, I wasn't overly impressed with the booklet. Another book I have is The Atlas of Isothermal Tranformation Diagrams put out by US Steel. It is a very old copy though, and seems to be missing a number of common knifemaking steels.

Patrick, what do you recommend as a comprehensive source for heat treating info for various knifemaking steels?

If you need more let us know. There are others.
Good Luck!!!

"Soak times can generally be taken as one hour per inch of thickness. For example 15 minutes would be about right for a quarter inch thick blade."

Not true, this is bad info.
