Forumites, check out this web site. It offers completely free unlimited long distance phone calls in the U.S. through your computer. You have to have a microphone and speakers and download the software that takes about 2 minutes. It lets you stay online and make phone calls with your computer. When you make local calls, you still need to include the area code. I already signed up and tried it and it works great. They also have an online answering machine for free. It records the message when someone calls and you're online and then plays it over your computer as soon as they send it. With this set up, you don't need a second line for the internet. Well, just wanted to share this with you folks. Take care!! Michael

When I signed up a few months back, the service was TERRIBLE! In order to make one stinkin' phone call, I literally had to redial over 50 times to get through. I tried several different phone numbers over a few days, but the results were all the same. Hopefully they've upgraded their service capabilities since I tried...

Also, I used the mic and speaker combo instead of a headset, and the results (once i finally did get through) were less than encouraging. When I had the speaker volume set high enough that I could hear it, the party on the other end could hear the echo as well. This resulted in many confusing pauses as they though someone was still talking.

In short, I'd check first to be sure the service is more reliable than I experienced, and if so I'd get a headset to prevent the echos.
