Greetings,
I pulled this combo out of the reclamation bin before it was sent out:). They came out of our R&D lab, and never used. The motor is a Baldor 3 ph, 220v, 1.5hp, 1750 RPM and the VFD is also 3 PH. I only have 220 vac 1 ph in my shop, how can I get 3 ph and install this onto my grinder?

Note: I could figure out how to post a picture, so I uploaded it onto photobucket.

Thanks for your input....

You are in luck as a VFD will create three phase power for your motor from single phase 220v. What you must do now is find or download the manual for your VFD and read it as it will clearly say how to wire it up. ALso you will see all the cool options you have availalbe.

Be aware that, though I'm not for sure, it doesn't appear that the VFD pictured is wash down rated or even dust resistant. Keep in mind that accumulating metal dust can and WILL short a VFD at some point. It could be a week, it could be two years, but you'd hate to throw a perfectly good VFD away.

So, either mount it well away from the grinder in a clean area of the shop and blow it out (with the power off) occasionally, or build a clean box for it.

There's a good chance that the particular VFD you have is NOT rated for single phase input. Many VFD's will not work on single phase input.
Go online to Baldors website and check your model number with them. Make sure it will work on single phase input. They will also have the manual for it and you WILL need it set up the drive.
As someone else mentioned, it tis not a NEMA 4 enclosure and will have to be protected from grinding dust or it will not last.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Reading the info from Baldor's site, the VFD does only take 3 phase input.

I am now looking for a Rotary or Static phase converter (or shelf it).

I have 3 phase at my home and I will pay shipping, so don't shelve it if all else fails.
