Got mine today. Thanks so much. I've got some pics I'll post later. Have opened one up and will do a review of it. They even come with a small pouch of water for the heater. Very cool.

I don't have the pics ready to post yet but wanted to give a quick review. I have had a few of the civilian and the military MRE's so I was interested to see if the FEMA version was different.

The one I chose to try was Chicken with black beans and rice. It contained the already mentioned entree, fig bar, cheese spread, raisins, shortbread cookie, cracker, beverate tube - respberry, pepper, spoon, towelette, heater, and salt water for the heater.

Everything was in great condition with onely two little corners of the cracker being broken.

With life being uncertain and all I decided to try the shortbread cookie first. It was very good. Nice and crunchy with a great buttery taste. Bothy my wife and my youngest gave it a good ol' thumbs up.

After that we tried the raisins. I was a little bit curious since the title said "raisins, osmotic." Wasn't quite sure what that meant. They appear to be just plain ol' ordinary raisins. Again the youngest gave them a thumbs up.

Dinner time came about and I decided to try the entree. I tore open the heater pouch, slipped in the entree pouch and poured in the included salt water. The little pouch of salt water was the most unique feature compared to the other MRE's I've tried. Didn't have to have anything additional in order to eat the meal. These MRE's are truly self-contained. The entree itself was pretty good. It had a little bit of a kick but nothing this spice wimp couldn't handle. It was just enough to clear the sinuses. The texture suprised me as it had nice chunks of shredded chicken, rice, beans and corn. I left the entree in the heater pouch for 10 of the recommended 12 minutes and it was plenty warm. Of course I was heating it in the kitchen which isn't too cold or anything. My wife wasn't a huge fan of this but did admit she could eat it if she had to.

For desert (sp?) I opened up the fig bar. Guess what, it was two fig newtons. They were in great shape as well. My wife quickly confiscated one of them. My loss.

Finally for a before bed snack I had the cheese spread and crackers. Honesly this was the only part that dissapointed me at all. The cheese spread was basically cheez whiz in a pouch. The crackers were sort of large, bland, club crackers. It wasn't bad, just not as good as the other items in the kit.

When I first saw the package I was a bit concerned. The whole meal contains 44g saturated fat, 1330 mg of sodium and 62 grams of sugar. The sugar is the biggest concern for me since my wife and I both are post-op Gastric Bypass patients and can't handle lots of sugar. Of course if you were to eat the entire meal in one sitting I would think that the sugar would be the least of your concerns. It really is a good bit of food. Typically I will split up MRE's and save the snacks for trips with the kids. In fact I will likely do the same with these and use the snacks on an upcoming flight to Seattle. Having the water was neat, not necessary but nice nonetheless. Considering that these were designed for FEMA rations where potable water is at a premium having the necessary amount in the kit is nice.

Anyway, thanks so much to DaggerBlade for the more than generous offer.

DaggerBlade, got mine today as well, thank you again!

I might save it for camping, but I'm also thinking it'd be interesting to do a "one a day" review. Will be sure to post thoughts and pics when I do!
