Freemont Jack or GEC #47 Viper

I think they pretty different knives. I have both on my want list. The Freemont Jack seems pretty burly but has a short cutting edge. The Viper looks like a great slicer and very sleek but I'm not sure if I would like the swayback handle shape. They both look very pinchable but I wish the Freemont didn't have that huge swedge radius. Viper blade in Freemont handle would be a sweet knife.

Thanks for the replies so far...I am starting to turn more towards the freemont, but not quite sold on the yellow camel bone. Can't afford the mammoth and not sure I feel right with micarta on a traditional.
Any thoughts...pictures of the yellow camel bone to sink the hook?

I like the micarta OK. I was a little surprised at the micarta coming in at the same price point as the bone. That probably swayed me toward the yellow bone. I should have one in the mail tomorrow. I'll try to snap some pics. If there's a run in black micarta or ebony, I'll be all over it as well.

I should have one in the mail tomorrow.

So after waiting all day today, I think USPS isn't meeting its expected delivery date. Guess I'll get it on Monday. I just polished up my GEC #42 blade & put it to the stone for a few swipes just to get some knife time while my Northfield is in transit.

I got the 47 a while back, and the Fremont just several weeks ago. I like how easily pinchable the blade is to open on the Fremont, but I like the 47 better in-hand and in-use.

Then, I got the Hawthorne last week and I'm liking this a lot as well. Everything I like about the Fremont, with a longer blade and longer overall size, but with a slimmer profile.

Hi im new at this, im interested on purchasing the viper from the Uk Does any one know a a link to a web?

Viper hands down. While the Fremont looks great, the blade is too thick and the grind to obtuse. The Fremont is like a pocket scandi knife. I actually ground mind to a zero edge and use it on wood, for day to day the viper is the better choice.

I recently grabbed an od green Fremont off the exchange and its a pretty cool knife. I've not handled a viper, but as you can tell from the posts, it's quite popular as well.

I like the blade grind on the a Fremont better myself. It's a good look.

I wouldn't be concerned about the micarta not being "traditional" enough. Knife makers have been using synthetics, etc., for years and years.

No wrong decision with either one. Or just get both. ;)
