Freind request ?

I already looked in the faqs for an answer to this but it was clear as mud to me.

What is the purpose and or the point to a request to be freinds from someone if they can just pm or e-mail as previously done before this option appeared ?

I am SO not having anything to do with a friends list - whose idea was that? Is this Myspace?
 
The reason I started this is that I got a request to accept someones freindship whom I don't believe I know. No explanations or pm/e-mail. It's got me baffled.

It isn't like it's a social commitment. No worries.:)
 
Ah, but you're a KnifeMaker. This is a potential customer who wants another link to make it easier to keep in touch with you. Go for it. :)
 
I realise the potential economic or contact upside, but on the other hand I've seen the potential for abuse first hand. Some poor guy was inundated with requests on another sub forum as a joke. Where's the plus side there?
 
As a joke? Not nice, of course. But it's a glitch on the internet scale of things, and anyone doing that is wrong -- but you don't have ot accept requests, and even if you do, you can unlink friendships you decide are not appropriate.

Getting one now and then if most likely legitimate. It's true some members may be thinking of this like green chicklets, an attaboy, instead of a contact vehicle. But I notice a number of my BF friends are the people who PM me with the occasional question or information.

I made a half-joking post about my not having any friends, some time back...Bastid was kind enough to send me a Friends request... :)

Certainly can't hurt to have BladeForums Royalty on my Friends list... :p

I expect that particular request was just what Esav suggested...Someone saw or read about some particular work you did, and wants to have your email/PM handy for future consideration... :cool::thumbup:
