Freshwater bass fishing line

Zuki, i prefer suffix and you have a good deal on that 6lb line. to give you an idea on tensil strength of Suffix i caught a 7.5 lb bass and a 9.5 lbs bass within an hour of each other without re-tying the knot. granted it was 12lb but keep in mind on how strong those big fish pull and fight. i would take the suffix over spiderwire mono any day of the week. just my opinion.

now to incorporate thread line with mono or flouro you can use both. i do. i use both for some of my spinning rods. i bascially use the flouro or mono as the leader. you will see that line twists almost go away with using thread line. lots of salt water guys are doing this for that fact alone. i use a union knot or swivel from thread to mono/flouro.......

btw isnt Suffix a copolymer or is it straight up mono? cant remember. i do know that Pline is a copolymer.

I was going to go out and start bass season for me here today, probably just jigs and slow plastics. It's about 52 here right now. I'm debating stripping the spiderwire off and using the suffix, or saving the suffix until i need it later.

if the spider mono is new and is on your reel already dont strip it. waste of $$. use it and when you run low spool up the suffix... now if i had to choose a small diameter line from 4lbs - 10lbs i would use the orginial Yozur Hybrid. the breaking point on those are double what the test lbs are. fantastic line imo.... one small tip on using open face rods. if you do not use braided line you are more apt to get line twist. so either use braided line and use a leader or use a small swivel about 8-10 inches up from your lure. cures most line twists. i grew up fishing nothing but open face reels. i have learned a lesson or two lol.

I use Suffix all of last year. Its my new favorite.

i damn sure use it with confidence. granted i am not using any this year. thats only bc i had stocked up on Yozuri Hybrid, Pline and Seaguar Flouro (red label)

i tried yozuri hybrid with my first P.O.S. baitcaster probably 7 years ago or so. How is it? I forget. I think i got it in the smoke color.

I've switched most of my spinning outfits over to PLine FlourClear - it has the best of both mono and flouro combined. Been using it for about 3-years now (after struggling with 100% flouro) with no issues. So all my rods have either that or braid.

i use Yozuri mainly for my spinning rods. its a little stiff until you get it good and wet. (insert perverted joke here)....... i love Yozuri. i also use line conditioner too. kind of addicted to that stuff now. it really helps flouro, hybrids and copolymers.

i use the 6lb yozuri quite a bit sometimes. the breaking point is like 11-14lbs.. pretty stout stuff. they make another type of zuri line, its more limp and "better" for spinning reels. however i dont think it has the same strong tensil strength the original zuri has.

not sure of the tensil strength of 6lb suffix. google it and post it. might be the same as hybrid though i doubt it. hybrid per diameter i think is the strongest line out there. the salt water guys love the stuff.

fireline for spinning
stren flurocarbon on baitcasters

i use diff strengths for diff set ups but its always these two lines
have never failed me nor do i think they ever will

For light mono on a spinning rod 4 to 6lbs maxima ultra soft has worked well for me. I recently put 4lb p-line flourocarbon on my spare spool to try as I picked up a nice 7ft shimano with a soft parabolic action, rated for 4 to 8lb. I figure the rod will take enough shock with no stretch in the line.

I also agree with the double palomar for braid, we are catching 12 to 45lb salmon in the massive tidal current of the Fraser river and never slip at the braid knot with 55lb braid(20 to 25lblb leader). I straightened out a 3/0 gamagatsu on a fluke hooked sturgeon last year, the braid held.

I am anxiously awaiting my lake up north in the Cariboo (Bridge lake) to thaw, early spring fishing for kokanee and lakers is killer. No downriggers or banana weights, they stay in 10 to 40ft of water until the surface temp gets over 55F.

Thats actually what I was going to recommend. I use braid on my baitcasters, then I have a medium spinning setup for finesse fishing which I use the P-Line FluoroClear. I just discovered this line this yr and have loved it so far. Its a co-polymer line

I have to totally agree with your line choices! ALL of these are what I have used and will swear by them!
I personally love the Pline in the Flouroclear. ( SP?) It's great all around and I really seem to catch more
fish and it works great on ALL reel types!!

i have not tried the flouro clear as of yet. i will be getting me some sometime soon. this is how i buy my lines

4lbs - 10lbs is Yozuri Hybrid - mainly spinning rods

10llbs - 14lbs is Pline (i love the strength of this line but its pretty stiff. i use a line conditioner to help) baitcasters only

10 - 14 lbs sometimes Suffix - baitcasters only

6-10lb braid - for spinning reels

14lb seaguar flouro red label 100%.. i think its really good quality flouro without breaking the bank. it can get stiff at times but again, line conditioner.

-- for those of you who get bad line twist on spinning rods like i do. (yes i know how to put new line on a spinning rod) use a small swivel. it really helps. if you want to eliminate it period use braid, swivel, and leader

I guess I'm the only one here who genuinely prefers spyderwire over the others :D

Ive been using it for years and never had a fish get away. I'm not 100% sure of which knot I use because I can no longer find the video on it but it is perfect.

I think the key to braided spyderwire is to wet the line before pulling the knot tight. I use my saliva but you can use water too. If the knot isn't completely secured using wetness, the knot tends to slip and people complain about it.

Im currently using 30lb stealth braided spyderwire. Its a little over kill but the reason I do that high of a test is because there's a lot of branches where I fish and Id rather have a branch break then lose a $10 lure.

i have 3 reels with spiderwire and i have had large bass pull the line off the hooks even with a knot tied in the end of the line. i have tried several knots and none hold. i found out that i can tie 2 knots in the end of the line which holds a little better. i know when i'm ready to respool it wont be with spiderwire. make a post to let us know how the other line works.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Spiderwire is the biggest letdown I have ever had. I have lost at least a dozen good sized bass, even when I got 20 lb test, let alone how many good lures have been lost to small snags. I really like my Trilene mono on my spinning reel, it is the kind that turns yellow in the sun out of water. I want to get some Fireline Crystal when I need to respool for it though.

Tight lines,
Connor

I've used Suffix and really dont like it. I used it on a spinning real and it seemed to retain some memory. I was throwing a #09 rapala CD. I'm a Mono fan and have tried just about everything and just cant find a better line than Trylene.

My favorite mono is P-Line CXX moss green. Favorite Fluoro is P-Line 100% Fluorocarbon. Braid is a toss up between Power Pro and P-Line braid. I've got a few spools of Power Pro Super 8 Slick that I've yet to try but I'm sure when I do it will be good stuff as well.
