friction fire starters

anyone gotta link for those fire starters that are a wooden dowel with a rubber o-ring that supposedly you can start a fire with just by pushing the dowel into a tube. i think thats how they work .

What you're referring to is a "fire piston". If you do a search for them here in the WSS forum you'll likely come up with tons of information about them, and I believe there are even a few for sale on the Exchange Forum. Hope that helps.
