After my first batch of fixed blades, I want to focus on making heavy-duty, hard-core folding knives. Do any of you have experience in making framelocks or friction folders? Tips?(like what the thickness of the stock should be, what pins, how big the pivot, how to actually make the frame of the frame-lock. etc etc)

Thanks guys!

There are lots of members in the forums making these. Did you use the search button? That's such a huge question there. If you can break it down the questions will be easier to answer. For instance how long , how thick and what shape will the blade be? One of the big thing for all folders is maintaining very close tolerances on thicknesses. Do you have or plan on getting a surface grinder? If you are new at making knives I believe it would be a necessaty for you to have and be able to use. All folders can be challenging to make . I suggest you look at some of the many online tutorials, and also recommend getting a book or two on folder making.

Using this search engine ( save it in yoyur favorites bar), you can find many past threads on folder making and lock types:

If you enter "Frame Lock Tutorial", you will get a lot of info. Other searches will get more.

How do you make the locking side of the framelock?

I'd try a friction folder first.

Is a great book, out of print
Amazon.ca has several copies for sale - one for $1,300 :) but it's worth the $300 for the others if you really want to build liner/framelocks.

but there are scanned ebook copies on the web, have a search for that.

This book is good for lockbacks
