Hello,
I am relisting this batch of Friction Folders. I decided to add pocket clips to these. They are all hung for right hand, tip up carry. Although I have never had a problem with these opening in the pocket, hanging the knife this way puts the blade in the crook of the pocket preventing it from opening.
Also, I have a question about the leather spacers that I use, so I thought I would share the question and answer in case anyone else has the same question.
"Have you had any problems with the leather drying out and shrinking over time? Do you compress or seal the leather in any way before you use it?
I am interested in the Cricket, but the leather spacer gave me pause."
"Great question. I can only speculate on the long term reliability of the leather spacer as I can only go back about 14 months of sales using them, but so far, not a single issue or negative feedback from any customer and I know there are several dozen in service including a Cricket V1 that I carry and abuse on a daily basis
Some details on the process that may set your mind at ease -
- The leather is glued to the spacer material so that moisture should not be an issue during normal use.
- The spacer has been burnished heavily which produces a very robust and resistant finish on the leather by closing the pores in the leather and sealing it with heat.
- If the scales are wood, the spacers also get a coat of Tru-Oil which adds additional water proofing
- No matter what scales are used, all finished knives get a coat of Carnuba and a good buffing
That being said, solvents and the like would not be kind to the leather I am sure, but I am pretty confident in the leather spacers at this point. Bear in mind too that there are many, many knives being made and many that are older than us that use leather spacers. Leather is an amazing material.
I hope I have not been too long winded, but I thought you would like a complete answer. Finally, I do offer a lifetime warranty on all my knives that I will honor as long as I am alive and physically able."
Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions!
Doug
