The hotel here has free internet access....wahoo!!

Left at 7:30 AM yesterday morning, arrived here at 9 PM. Went pretty smooth, actually. Kids were great. Had a little help in the evening hours from a loaned DVD player (Thanks Tom!).

Wake up this morning, the two oldest's eyes are swollen shut with pink eye! :grumpy:  :(

So, wife's off to the ER to get them hooked up with some antibiotics, and then to Savannah to meet up with old friends from school, etc.

Father-in-law and I are headed to the show to set up the table. Bruce Bump sent me two of his knives to sell - both are amazing! I'll take some pics and post 'em later.

Those who are here, or on their way - see you at the show!

Best of luck to you, Dan. One word, pictures;) Maybe next year i can negotiate a little time off and make it to Blade. I hope your boys get over their pink eye quickly. i REALLY hope you don't develop it.

Jake

Wow....whadda day!

Dinner at Fogo's was awesome!

I'm sure some of the other guys will chime in later (maybe Monday?) with pics, details, etc.

Heckuva good time and the Blade Show wasn't too bad either. :D

Sold a number of blades. Hope to do more tomorrow. Sitting in the mastersmith area has it advantages and disadvantages.

Off to bed!

...although if you do, I suppose that everyone at Blade will get to take something home with them this year. ;)

Thanks for the reports, Dan. Sorry to hear about the pink eye.

Definetely a wonderful day!

The food at fogo's was awesome and the company was great! We all met at Dan's table and worked out a caravan of sorts. We had a great turn out. More than I expected...but not as many as I'd hoped. I'll try to list everyone but i'll probably miss someone...if I do I apologize and hope you'll chime in...
Dan Koster and his friend Jim, aziz, specter,Tom Krien, Hdwrlover, Bamboo, roadrunner and two of his amy pals, me and the wife(jessica) ...there was one quite guy at the end of the table...if I caught his name I've forgotten it.
Hey I think I got everyone!!
Large khuk's and small folders were passed around...sometimes to the consternation of the other patrons :D That was great...

We had a bit of a hard time finding fogo's...we had a harder time getting back to the hotel! We actually had to pull into another hotel to get direction to OUR hotel. :D
Blade show this year is huge! Even people that have been going for years agree...it's HUGE!!
So far I've only snagged 5 knives...all Japanese cooking knives. 4 Murray Carters and 1 by Takeda Hamono.
Dans cord wrapped fixed blades are nice. Well finished, sharp grinds and wrapped well...topped off with a good hand crafted and felxible sheath system...

I'll have to wait till I get home and crop and resize before I can post pics. :grumpy:

At the end of dinner, Dan unveiled to us a khuk that will be made in memory of UB. Price unknown at this time and rumored to be made only in a quantity of 40 to 50 once- first come first served when put up for sale. More details to be revealed by Dan shortly,

Roadrunner and Tom Krein(red shirt) holding Foxy Folly protos. Roadrunner holding model that is specified weight but too long. Dan said there are 15 of these "machetes". Tom holding proto that is correct length but 28 ozs - 4 ozs too heavy. Anyone volunteer to go to BirGorkha to straighten this misunderstanding out?

I'd offer to go, but they would laugh at my ball peen hammer...

Looks like a great time is being had by all...more pictures please!

Looks like the caption under Dan's image at the table should be:

"Luke.... I am your father."

Either that, or he is possessed by the fire of the forge.

He most definitely is possessed, and the proof is quite apparent in the zoomed in photo. Get Dan around knives, people into knives, and good food, and he's in rare form... :D

I am afraid that I missed the dinner with everyone. We have had about a week of rain here in Atlanta. Which in turn caused some basement flooding in my house. The rain caused some "house settelment" which put a crack in the slab that the house sits on as well as a crack in the basement wall. Instead of a meal with some great friends I had to wait for a guy to come and tell me that it wasn't as bad as it seemed and that it was safe to stay in the house until we could have it fixed. Missed you guys, glad you had fun.

Mark , sorry you couldn't make it.
Did you make it to the show at all?

A few of us got together for dinner again tonight. We went to Don Pablo's.
My dinner tonight cost less than my wifes martini last night :D LOL It was good food... just not the quality or quantity of Fogo's!

Bamboo got a huge bowie that he's really happy with today.
Spector got a bunch of Greco's...I never saw them all. Maybe I'll catch up with him sometime tomorrow.
I picked up an Atlanta Cutlery khukri...just the bare blade. One of the old ones. I made the guy bring out the whole box so I could go through them and pick out the best one. All had flaws but I picked the one that had the fewest...best weight, straight and true, longest tang, cleanest edge(some were really crap),least pitting/staining.
For the price I could have gotten a blem or deal of the day...but I wanted something old and something to play at altering/enchancing.
I also picked up a stian prinsloo fixed blade...I'll post pics later. Also got a nice laminated steel Japanese blade that I'll cord wrap...also a japanese blade that I think I'll put an dark burl and olive wood handle on. Tho that might change depending on what I see at the show tomorrow.
I'm really disappointed that there wern't any quality khuks here...I've seen a few tourist pieces but nothing other than them and the older pieces of Atlanta Cutlery.

Hey Tom I did make the show. For a while on Friday and most of today. I watched the ABS cutting competition with Dan. I think that they will be in trouble when Dan steps up to the plate on that one (taking bets now). I also saw the knives that Spector got. He was pulling them out of every pocket that he could find! Great score on his part. I got a nice S7 Bowie from Ranger Knives it has a nice mirror finish and carbon fiber handles. I have had a drink or three at Don Pablo's before, not a bad place to spend some time with your friends. Are you going to be at the show all day on Sunday? I kept my eye open for you but in the crowd never saw you. Which is kind of funny in a way because I ran into Roadrunner and Spector about five times. I also looked through the Atlanta Cutlery stuff but took a pass on them. Can't wait to see the pics of the knives you got this time around, your choices from last year were great.

It's pretty plain there were good times to be had - we can feel them from here in Montana. Lucky Dogs!

Dan, I was beginning to think my wife and sons were the only people to have pink eye in North America. We were the pink eye family for awhile. Last year we caught it twice.

Mark, I'll be there most of the day if the wife doesn't get too lonely.
I'll be in levis' and a grey/silver shirt. I look pretty much like I did last year except a few pounds heavier. :)

I have to get some rayskin or something similar for under a cordwrap I'll be doing.

I'm glad you were able to make the show...

I've got some pics I could post now but I'll wait till I get back home to a light tent and edit capabilities....

Hdwrlover,

Thanks for posting those pics. I still need to get over there and thank Jerry for his fantastic donation. I went by a few times but the area is always busy and I couldn't spot him.

I gotta get a better camera!!!

Bill Martino and the HI forum always had mutual respect and friendship with Jerry Busse and the Busse forum.

I'm betting on Dan. I learned almost 1/10th of what he knows about sharpening when he was at my house for last year's MWKK and went from Dullsville to "Be careful with that!"

If anyone doubts or even wants to see what a truly sharp blade is, get one done by Dan.
