Friday,Friday,Friday Happy New Year !!!

It would be safe if you could read through the walls with that load Mark. It couldn't take more than 8 or 10 grains.

If I were you, I'd just drill out a piece of steel that fits the knife, then grind the whole mess together for a nice neat job. Otherwise, try to get some chrome/moly tubing or seamless Hydraulic tubing.

If you have trouble getting it, let me know and I'll get you what you need.

Looks like a quiet night in the shop for me...Barring anymore goofups I will hav the first of my MS Judging knives finished tonight  :D :D Man these will test your will power and nerves!!!!!

Hope everyone has a Great New Year, and may all your Dreams of knifemaking come true in the coming year.

Happy and healthy new year to all you. Tomorrow I get to see my poor little Mountaineers get there ass kicked in yet another bowl game (hope not) and Sunday my most prized little Steelers finish up and get a needed rest. After the college game I am making oyster soap for the little lady, her favorite. Sunday after the Steeler game its back to tapering some tangs and drilling holes (aarg, I hate drilling holes).

Not doing much.
Betty and I are staying home tonight. Raining.
Tomorrow I plan to clean the shop up some.
New Year's resolution is to get hot on finishing orders and refurbishing some for customers.

Happy New Year, guys. Hope it is prosperous for each of you.

Happy New Year Guys,

Hey Don, What barrel thickness would a .125 bore need to be for a mini shotgun?. Probably fire about the same weight as half a .22 bullet in shot. Thinking about a folder with a mini 2barrel. Most like A203E and "the king of steel damascus :)

Mark something to think about
I'm not sure if they have them now but they use to sell 22 bird shot.. :)
of course you may is well have just grabbed the bird when you got close enough to hit it anyway :( :D Happy New Year Guys

#6 Bird shot is pretty close to that size Mark. Just to give you an idea how small the charge needs to be, I built a little pistol that shot a single #6 and used a large rifle PRIMER as the propellant. It averaged about 935 FPS.

Hey Bro, how can you clean your shop and be on the 'putor at the same time?
I had to come in and have a fresh wedge of pumpkin pie right out of the oven.
Then I'm back out building a new stand for one of my anvils. Gosh the weather around here has turned just really decent for the weekend.

Happy New Year Guy's!

Just started the forge. Think I'll start the one to go in that sheath Mark. Thinking cordwrap dagger. 1" x 7" blade. Was thinking 5160 but I think I'll do D2.

It was really nice Friday, and I had so much to do, I just made the right choice and grabbed my .17 and shot some squirrels for the freezer. Today, we have our freezing rain starting, so it's inside after we ran got the shopping done. Last night was spent in front of the TV, safe, warm, and on the right side of steel bars. IG, your tree rats are starting to really add up in my freezer. You like them with gravy, don't you? Happy New Year, folks!

Since I like to preheat the D2 before forging and since it's been a couple weeks since I beat hot steel I decided to practice on the 5160. A little profiling and a heat treat and this one will be almost ready for a cordwrap. D2 should be ready now. Probably take a little longer for this one......D2 is hard stuff.
I don't usually do daggers and only have to worry about one side to heat treat.
Should I marquench....what is the acceptable method for heat treating daggers?
