What a quick week. Seems like monday was yesterday. Now that I'm done with Mr.Toasty I get to fill a couple of Christmas orders. Then I can get started back on the big intergral.

What ya'll got going on this w/e?

Your right this week zipped by. I am make a big pot of Cacoila ( marinated pork) for the guys that are coming over tomorrow. One of my bro's runs a bike shop and I heat treat some spacers for the 32 Harley he is rebuilding and he is coming over to pick them up and he is bring me the primary and secondary chains off of it. I'll be making a 32 HD knife. :D

Cacoila, sounds an awful lot like caca. I bet its good though.

Does the bike chain give a good contrast between components. I welded up a timing chain once. All the pieces were the same steel :(

Mark, I do it in a canister with 1084 and 4600 powder. The 4600 is high in nickel.
The pork is marinated in beer and my relish.

My son is coming over to use my computer to make a baby shower invitation. My step-daughter just got up, planning to use my computer to finish her sociology paper. I'll be running interference.

I'm going to work on a half-scale version of the theater knife I made a while back, do some yard work, and pay, hopefully, November's bills. I am a master of displacement behavior and now I'm in hot water with the utilities...

And maybe, just maybe, I'll clean off my desk again. Can't see the top of this thing cause mail just keeps coming and it all gets dumped here.

Then I'm going to order some leather and belts. It's Christmas! I get some new supplies every year with our bonus at work and it's a fine thing.

I have one class this morning that I suppose I'll go to. Then its no school till next wednesday when I have 2 finals. So I'm going out to the shop this afternoon and probably staying there until sometime Tuesday :D
I have 2 projects I have to get finished by christmas, well one actually a week or 2 before. Its a small folder and I haven't started it. The guy wants one "exactly like the one I already got from you" and I don't have any pictures or dimensions  I remember it being about a 2.5" clip blade, with maroon micarta scales. Guess he'll get one very similar to the last one :D

hmm. .. going to do some more duck hunting. Lil bastids aren't around yet though. :grumpy: Gotta re-heat treat a big blade that did a little twisting on me during the quench.

Good part -- took monday off just for S&Gs, so I'll be in the shop allllll day. :D

If God decides to cut me some slack and not allow it to snow too much, I MAY just get my house siding finished this weekend. YAY FOR ME! I been at this 8 months. Know what that means? Eight months and not one knife completed. Thats the bad news. Know what the good news is? I had my house appraised and I thought I was going to double my investment... I was wrong... I'm going to nearly TRIPLE it! Looks like all my hard work was worth it. Theres a lot to be said for sweat-equity, and brothers - I've poured a lot of sweat into this place.

Knifemaking? Hmmm, maybe by January. Until then, its cleanup and inside trimming, then I'm done until spring. :D

TRIPLE,That would buy a LOT of land somewhere. All I need is just a little corner somewhere :) I'm trying to convence Don to buy up 500 acres out West. I swear we need to get a bunch of us guys together and buy up a $hitload of land somewhere and build the communal "MEGASHOP"

Walked away from the shop for two days to clear my head. Progably gonna start another blade this afternoon.

Mark, I agree with you. Let's buy some land (near my house) and build a fine shop. We could all pitch in to help on the assembly line when the "Mr. Toasty" thing takes off. (especially around Halloween). :) :)

I've killed enough Deer for the year. I'm going to go Squirrel hunting tomorrow afternoon.

Glad you all had a quick week. Work has been a nightmare this week and it ain't over yet.
Damn...just got another call from Verizon asking why I pulled my yellow pages account. They have called twice a day all week. If they were so concerned about my account, they shouldn't have POed me in the first place.

hauling firewood is the order of the day for tomorrow. It has been colder than a brass toilet seat in the Yukon here all week. It hasn't gotten above freezing since last Sunday. It is supposed to warm up into the high thirties today.

Ordering some W-2 from Southern Tool Steel this afternoon. Gonna need it as tomorrow I am...

Mooooooving! Already have some stuff in the new shop! I'll get the grinder and machine tools over there early next week just in time.

What kind of inventory as far as W-2 do they carry? Rods or do they also carry flats?
Thanks

First I need to get some sleep. Last night before work when I was supposed to be sleepin I got a call from my daughter. Seems when she rode over that board dam thing had a nail in it and it got both tires. Car on blocks to get flats fixed. $@%@!#$. Who needs sleep anyway?
Someone reciently came up with the idea that we should make the sheath for a knife as we finish it. Guess it still hasn't sunk in because I have a few sheaths to finish before the Chesapeak show next week. I'm playing with leather this weekend.

HI..I've been lurking here for quite a while, hope you don't mind me jumping in your thread.
I've got 4 knives to finish before the week of the 22nd..then I'm off to London to meet up with some guys from the "British Blades " forum, we'll be there untill new years.
Indian geroge, the Cacoila sounds great. :D

P.S. I hope I didn't kill this thread too

At the moment, they said they don't carry inventory, but they're getting me a 6' piece of 1/4" x 2" hot rolled. It wasn't cheap ($110 but then I usually buy flat ground 18" at a time), but might be less in larger quantities. I talked with Brent Hayslett, who seems to be a really nice guy.
