We don't do the Friday whazzup post alot anymore, so I thought I'd ask what folks are up to this weekend?

I have been stuck in a chair with a back problem for 2 weeks, and have improved enough I plan on spending the weekend down in the shop working on a knife, my first in awhile. Sunday football. Go Bears!

Now, I beg an indulgence of the moderators as I stretch the rules a bit. Realizing OT posts are not generally approved in Shoptalk anymore, I ask that you allow this one so all may participate. I hope that by combining it with the Friday Post which has been ok before, you will find it permissable. I thank you and promise not to use this as an opportunity to take future license.

A couple weeks ago, a forumite asked that I start a thread encouraging people to post fotos of their ink. He thought it would be fun to see what we might sport for decorations. Here's my offering. It's aged, and is now 12. My skin has gone through a lot of changes as I went from 200 pounds to over 300 after my health changed! At one time the warrior was brown, but it was old powder ink and faded. The warrior was supposed to have a set of tattoos in the "gym trunks" style of the Samoans. I got sick, the artist retired, and it never got finished. The miscoloration of the dragon is because I went and got an uncolored part finished and the colors went in two different directions. Still, it's my favorite ink. Plus, it's got a sword to be topical!

What are you sporting?

Thanks, again, mods. I appreciate your kindness!

I actually do have a 'tattoo' .When I was a little kid my brother stabbed me with a pencil. It's still there many years later !! Other than that I have no use for them .

It's Friday...of a VERY long week around these parts. I've got work to catch up on that I got a little behind on this week due to "other things". My Mom moved in here as of last night (she'll be staying for a month or so) so I have to get her situated and play referee between our dog and hers. I should be picking up my Christmas present from everyone this weekend (a used 2HP dust collector with one of those "vortex lids" for a trash can and a Lone Ranger remote on/off gate setup...everybody will chip in a few $$ and I'll have just the shop tool I want :) ), and if I find a new motor for the power hammer today I'll try to spend some more time working my first pattern welded billet. It's at 14 layers now and I'll probably take it to either 224 or 448 layers. So I've got to draw, cut, and re-weld 4 or 5 more times. If the hammer is running I think I can do it in a day. I'll probably work a second billet at the same time and see how far it gets.

If I get a few spare minutes, I'll try to get pictures of my ink and update this thread.

Have a good weekend all!

I am trying to heat treat 4 large blades, 3 med., and 3 small blades. Wish me luck..........seems like having a soon to be 1 yr old limits my time in the shop. Thats one other reason I am trying to get a tad faster without losing qua;ity of course:thumbup: :D

Ahh Friday....

Just another day for me anymore. It's cold a very windy here today. Most likely I'll be working at getting the barn windproofed :D

It's looking more and more like a shop up there. We hope to have it set up in a couple more weeks. It's hard getting much done when you can only lift about 20 lbs. But at least I can do that much.

Hope everyone has a good w/e

This is one of those weeks(and weekends) that seems to have been planned out for me. It was a birthday week, my 50th, and everyone seems to think it's a big deal but me. Consequently...no shop time. I'm bummed:grumpy:

Anywho...nice tats there Mike. I noticed that warrior has a hairy butt. One of the benefits of growing older eh :D

btw...my body bag is a plain white wrapper, except for the extra hair that a half century of life brings on. Another funny thing about aging....things that used to be limber are now getting stiff, and things that used to get stiff are staying limber. Whussup wit dat?

wooo hooo the friday post

Shut down on any travel due to the snow and all the jackknifed trucks and cars off in the ditch. Was going to a gun show in Tulsa but will not venture out just finish one Christmas order. Stay by the phone and keep the coffee pot on. They had a pile up yesterday evening west of Oklhoma City last night with 9 semis ,6 cars, a wrecker, and an ambulance and shut it down at 6 PM. Now North out of the city on I-35 shut down to another rollover. Turpike from the City to Tulsa to Joplin shut down also. Stay warm and watch knifemaking dvd's . Good day for it.

You got caught up in your social commentary there, Robert, and forgot to tell us what you were doing this weekend! ;) Hope you have a good one! :)

I got no tats. I am neutral on them for men. Have seen some on women that I really liked.

I have a table at a gun show in beautiful downtown Aztec, NM this weekend, four miles from the house.

Got my Christmas present early this year (from my dear, supportive wife)- an old Johnson gas forge. Man, it's in rough shape, but the price was right ($25).

So this weekend's project is to get that bad boy up and running. I'll post pics :)

Mike

well i'm off to work but first i think i'll do some work in the shop slabbing up some burl for sale.
i should have a few knives coming back from HT in the mail today. might get to working on them. then working the weekend away in the kitchen:thumbup:

johnsons are nice. i got one sitting around all rusty in decent shape otherwise. but i need about 200 bucks worth of valves and stuff to get it running, well thats what the salesman told me

The weekend ? The storm's coming through this afternoon but we don't expect much .Certainly not like some areas like in MO where they shut all the roads. I'll continue my long project of photographing the new bridge construction and now the old bridge demolition. Got some fine photos this week of an excavator with shear chewing up the trusses . Like a mechanical T-Rex ! "We don't need no stinking band saw !! "

It's a funky storm. Woke up this morning to every window plastered with frozen wet snow and an icy blizzard mess blowing sideways. It's tapered off now to a flurry. Maybe 5 inches total. Roads'll be icy for awhile today.

Michigan's probably getting a good dose of crap about now. Hope it doesn't get real nasty coming off Lake Erie and blast you folks out in NY and PA.

I saw one of those shears on a TV show recently. Impressive muncher, I agree. Must have been fun to see it live.

I'm getting ready to head back home again..the youngest boy and honey just moved into there first house this week so we'll be seeing the inside now:D

nice inc Mike I'll have to get the picture box and take a few pictures of mine..
I'm am still getting ready to do the next one my self I have all the stuff I need now, just building up the nerve now :D

Butch,,, nice to see you have a face now :D

no snow on the ground here, we just had one small storm that I didn't see at home..knock on wood....weird for Maine...
have a good one guys...

I hope we DO get blasted... I could use a good long weekend at home, with power or without! Good excuse to lay on the living room floor in front of the fireplace with the woman and the dogs!

I don't have any good shots of my inkwork, and it's never been finished, and no one really wants to see my skinny ass anyhow -- but I'll see what I can do.
