Saugatuck tonight for drinking and general debauchery, then working my ass off all weekend. I have 4 knives on order despite the fact that I keep telling people I'm not taking orders right now! How does this happen? Also this crazy a$$ vine is taking over my yard and it's creeping under my siding through the power lines, so I have a wonderful opportunity to dust off my Ross Aki Straight Back Machete and drop nuclear retribution on this thing! Hopefully I can track it back to the root system and bust nuclear khukuri restribution on it, too! Take that, vine sucka! Did I mention it's been a long week for me?

Get your patients to help out in the shop, tell them that grinding knives would be good for their backs :D.

Yesterday was close to 100 degrees yet when I got up this morning tis was overcast and about to rain. Needless to say, this morning is quite cool and perfect for some shop work. Just finished etching my lastest cable blade and prepping the handle for assembly hopefully alittle later today. :) :) :p Too early to tell about the rest of the weekend although I have another cable knife started which keeps giving me that little puppy dog look everytime I walk by it, wanting to be finished.

Just checked the weather -- 96 degrees - 40% humidity. Damn Missouri.

That's about what is is here every day, around 100 or just short of it. Too dang hot to do anything outside or much in the shop early. Last night it was still about 85 at midnight, and very humid. We have been moving kids' furniture the for past 2 weeks in this lousy heat. At work we work about 2 hours in the AC and the other 8 or so has been out in the heat and sun. We have to wear dark BDUs that are thick material and H-O-T! With the combat boots, gear belt and weapons, it's a real drag in hot weather. The only salvation is to draw a patrol that is pretty slow, allowing us to be in our air conditioned patrol vehicles. I'm just going to spend the rest of the weekend indoors!

Heck, for a change it's hotter pretty much everywhere else than here! It's been in the low to mid 90s here but with our high humidity it feels like the low 100s. Hot is hot. I'll have to mow the yard at some point this weekend, what a waste of time, if I lived in Arizona I'd have sand, rocks and cacti for my yard!!! We're used to the heat down here though, it will be like this until the end of October so I'll probably fire up the forge at some point this weekend. I want to grind/file a few knives I forged last weekend. Oh, and maybe try working on a habaki too. I have a friend who makes swords who has been sidetracked into brewing ale until his hydraulic press is finished. Now he has the right idea!!! :D

Here in a bit I am gonna brave the heat and work on set of bevel dies for the press.

I will post results soon.

Now Guy, that sounds like a plan! You can forgo the other blades (as much as I'd like to see them) and get that habaki and tsuba done! I want to get my mitts on that project! :D

Ah yes - a man after our own heart! Why bother making knives at all! Make ale and make friends! Partay!

Or not. Just go ahead and admit we're middle-aged and acknowledge that's why all the twenty-somethings just look right through us. (I've been at the pool this afternoon and my pride took a hit...can you tell? Poor me. :D)

If it wasnt so darn hot here I would finish grinding by first big blade. Since it will be hot I will probably tinker here and there.
Have a good weekend all. :)

Like Burchtree said, very hot here in the Ozarks. I guess I'll just work on a big honkin bowie here in the AC :D Putting AC in the shop was the best thing I ever did. 100 outside, 70 and dry in the shop :D Ya'll have fun.

Michael, you can get one of those small AC window units for around $150 for the knife shop and make life a whole lot better in the summer :D
