I've just about got the shop ready to do a little work. Hopefully my back will allow me to do enough to keep food on the table. I plan on taking it slow and resting when I need it. I'm just not used to taking it easy on myself. Change is a hard :D.

Enough blather.

Some good news...I talked with the folks at Blue Ridge Knives in Marion Virginia. They said they "Might" be interested in buying some of my wares for resale. Just need to get some simple designs worked out and get going on them. I plan on making a few differant prototypes and see what we can work out.

So what's happening with you guys this w/e?

Mark

Hoping to make a couple Santoku style blades today, and sap some of the dogs' energy.

Got the call as I was headed out the door that we aren't working today. Business is too slow. So I'm probably gonna go out and shovel some horse shit later today and then see if I can get some stuff done in the shop. Have a guy coming over to see about buying a horse tomorrow, and I might have a welding job on a broken snowplow too.
Have to thaw out the dang slack tub before I can do anything in the shop though 2 degrees out again this morning! :grumpy:  :grumpy:

Ive been rebuilding my hollow grinder and adding a 12' x 26' room on my shop. Its raining today so I may fire the forge and weld up some billets.

trying to finish up as many of the 5 knives i have on the bench in varying stages of incompletion:D I have 2 hunters made of W2 and a 1075 that have been heat treated porperly i hope and i need to make guards and handles, put an edge on both and sand them up and put them together. I have 3 larger W2 blades including one kinda slim 12" W2 bowie and a smaller 7 inch homage to Bill Moran original ST24 prototype waiting to heat treat. i might actually get over the embarrasment and sell a couple of these assuming i can get a good edge on them...and they will be cheap so heads up:D Both of the hunters are 4 1/2-4/3/4 inch blades and will both get some variation on a Bil Moran theme for handles. Here they be in their raw form.....lol

This afternoon I'm hoping to put a new set of scales on a recurve. The first ones sucked. Then I need to buff out one blade and peen on a set of bolsters and attach the sclaes to the handle. I have some black ash burl and some curly maple. I'm not sure which I want to use. Tomorrow hopefully I'll finish those handles and finish grinding my second recurve and attach the scales to it. Then finish it sunday. So 3 knives to finish this weekend and hopefully I'll have pics to post Monday.

I've been screwing off a lot lately. Cold shop, low ambition. I do have a couple of orders to fill and will work on them Sunday.

I am going out shooting Saturday. I traded two hunting knives for a BSA Majestic Ultralight .270 last weekend at a gunshow and worked up a couple of loads, then reloaded 100 rounds last night. I will get it zeroed in and get used to shooting it. It is a really fine rifle, 6 lbs, modified "98 Mauser type action, free floated barrell, muzzle brake, glass bedded action it is probably in at least 80% condition-some bluing wear, but no dings. It was probably made in the early '60s.

I am just a kid with a new toy...

Guards and handles for a couple hunters and heat treat a tanto.
Glad you are doing OK Mark. I still plan to drop by this spring. Hopefully I won't bring more snow. I will bring some veggies. Did you ever get the specks for the dies in that hammer?

Larry

Mark,

If you are working on what I think you may be working on. Don't even think about it until Deb and your back and your docs say it is all good. ;).
(Don't want no "broke back hawk".)

Have a great weekend all

I'm going to clean my shop. No, wait I was going to do that over a year ago. I think I'll go to a small local knife and gun show Saturday about seven or eight miles from my place.

I here you on the frozen slack tub Matt :D . I dropped something I was working on down through a thawed hole in the top of my tub. Had to fish it out with a hoe.

Looking forward to it Larry. We should be well settled in by Spring. We'll have the steaks ready.

Gus , Too Late. I'ts already begun. :) Believe me . It will take me while. I've learned my limits finally and I can deal with them.

I'm going to spark up this baby (Lapmaster 15). Just bought it/restored it. It's capabilities are beyond knifemaking flatness (the manual talks a lot about optical flats and maintaining .000001").
All I'll be doing right now is improving finish on a lot of double-disc-ground parts while holding flatness and edge crispness. I have a feeling this tool's capabilities will recommend it to other tasks as well once we see it work.

Hey Missed Placed Yankee, you clean your shop then you will not be able to find anything.

This was a good week for packages. I got a KMG from Rob Frink, and the motor for it from fleabay, and I got a big order from Texas Knifemakers Supply. Fun stuff. I'm just trying not to think of how much money I spent this week, and how much I didn't make.
What with the Arctic weather we've been having, working outside is out of the question. I got this grinder to use indoors, so I'm back in business. :D
