Friday

Have to go to school this morning, then run into work and see about starting up again next week. Then its nothin but knives and barn work all weekend. gonna try and go to another horse show on sunday too.
Think saturday night some friends are gettin together to watch a big UFC match too, oughta be fun.

The whole weekend will be at the forge, gotta get stuff finished by monday. There's also a little hammer in about 5 miles from the shop on saturday, so I suppose I'll stop in :)

One of these days I'll work some sleep into my schedule... Oh well...

Playing catchup from being sick for two weeks. Only times I felt good enough to do any forging it rained (except one day, and my arm is still paying for it). Rest of the good days have been spent on motorpool maintenance. It's like all our vehicles decided to get back at me for something or other.
Hope to do a little forging on Saturday morning and get some more work done on my verticle welding-forge.
Hey, did you know you can get a pretty decent weld on SS (316, I think) with regular flux coated mig wire? Tried to break the seam weld with my 12# sledge and it held great (actually just taking the "egg shape" out of the reduced pipe at the seam). This stuff is nearly 1/4" thick (metric stuff). I was told by an expert (mech. eng) it couldn't be done. He won't come over and give it a whack. THinks it's some kind of trap or trick. I told him to go back to counting rivets and bearings.

trying to get back into the swing of things. Cutting my hand gave me a 5 day vacation from the shop. Going to check out NC_Cooters 4psi forge Sat. morning.
I think that sucker lives 3 miles from me ;)

Took last weekend off for coontinuing education purposes, so I hope it's grind city this weekend. Have a guest in town so that burns the afternoon today and the first half of Saturday. Have two knives on order, which I wasn't real interested in doing (people always want what you don't have available) because I always get busier with unexpected patients when I take knife orders, and I have to delay the orders (usually a few days, maybe a week or so, but it happens every time). So, I'm playing catchup! Also WAITING! I have been waiting for material to do Japanese handle wraps for weeks. I have two Japanese knives sitting on the bench saying "What's the deal, dude?" every time I go in the shop, so that's getting frustrating. The only thing worse than not selling anything is not selling anything because you're stalled on materials to finish the things to sell in the first place! Doh!

Its always a balance Chiro - Between having orders and figuring out what you can do timewise. I am about 3 months behind and always let the customers always know where I am at. They will love you for it!!

Getting on a plane this afternoon for a week-long vacation in northern Colorado. Gonna hike, float in hot springs, play with my niece, and chill the heck out. I'll catch you guys on the flipside! :D

Yep! If I've learned absolutely nothing else in my 6 years at Bladeforums both from a buying and selling point of view, it's the importance of good communication. All it takes is a 20 second email to explain what the status is and most people are cool. I'm very clear about things when people contact me to purchase something, too. I make it abundantly clear that my first priority is my practice. This has been one of those weeks where I come into the office at 7:00-8:00 and I don't leave until 7:00 or later. Doesn't leave much in the way of time to grind/finish!

I'am now headed to my shop after one month of garden/cafee maintenance. I know I said I would start to make knives last week but you know, if you think a job will be done in one day it will take 1 week. Thats exactly what happened. Now I am sure because the job is finished at the garden...

A busy and fun weekend awaits me at the shop :D  .

Good grief! Is it Friday already? Haven't had any shop time for a week and it ain't happening this weekend either. We've been working in the yard the last too many days and more of the same today. Then this evening I'm driving to Cedar Rapids to hang with my Dad, brother and family. It's my father's 78th birthday this weekend and they drove up here from New Mexico to bring us a bunch of stuff. My Dad's handshake will still splinter the bones in your hand if you're not prepared! :D I love that guy.

But before I get to party, it's put about 25 more bags of mulch down and watch my son dig holes for Jeanie's newest load of plants... Ah, Spring!... :D

I'm heading over to Ron Duncan's Hammer In. Should be a blast. Might even learn something, since I'm about the World's worst blade forger. :)

Wish I were going to the above hammer-in this weekend, but it's the fiance's shower this weekend so I'll be doing some entertaining and hopefully getting in some shop time.

You guys have a good, safe one. Drive safe D-Day.

I'm diggin' Danbo's avatar, but that's not why I think that this may just possibly be the best Friday of my entire life...

Nope, not saying anything here. You'll have to wait for me to type up the news in Around The Grinder. ;)

Been tuning up my sawmill and will be cutting into some mesquite burls this weekend, trying to find highly figured knifehandle blanks and slabs. No grinding though, not yet anyway.

I had a pretty good weekend planned, until I had to sign over my bank acct to the tax man! After I'm done mopin around, I'm gonna work on Saturday and probably hang out a little on Saturday, Sunday is going to be more work on my parents kitchen.

This my last day of my vacation, gotta go back to work Sat at midnight. :grumpy: Heat treated another blade yesterday, going to do another today. Just got back from doing a little groundhog hunting. A little rusty missed a couple but the wind must be blowing 40 miles an hour.
That's rough on a 22.250, 45 gr.hollow point moving at 4000 fps. Had a great week off. I got alot accomplished with knife work.

Still working on no. 1. Got my bevels and distal taper roughed in last night, and it's time for files. I am hoping to be ready for heat treat Monday. (When I will build a 2 brick forge to do so.) :) I have been having alot of fun so far, and now it's about to get even better. Whee.........
