Friday's Eye Candy

When they reach 'bowling ball' size, are there any larger predators to contend with, or are they in the clear from then on?

As far as I can tell, there's nothing around here that bothers them. I have never lost an adult size tortoise or seen any sign of them being chewed on or messed with.

now that just looks like the best excuse for not mowing the lawn i have ever seen.

i'm a sucker for the turtles and tortoises. i have one full grown red ear and a baby Mississippi map. it must be nice living in ca, they can roam free all year. not the case up here

the tortes will come once i'm out of school and back on the farm.

The sliders and others are cool too. I used to have some when I was younger. It's nice that these guys live outside year round. They don't even know they are captives. All but three were hatched right here and don't know anything else.

Wow, very cool story & pet's. Now you have a knife to boot!

Thank you Plumber and et al (to all you guys) for your kind comments . Box turtles and tortoises are aged by the lines on the Platelets ( those little odd shaped sections on the shell) just count the lines . DM

More outstanding artwork from Leesa on that knife and great story and pictures of your tortoises Dave. I'm truly impressed of both the knives and the stories behind them.

Thanks G,

Leesa and I are planning at least one and maybe more jobs. I have the 110 with real pre-ban ivory scales I want to do something with and also another cow bone 110.

I'm thinking that my wifes agility dog, Flutter would be a great subject for one of them. She's black and white for the most part and I think she would work well as a subject.

What do you think?

Dave that would be a beautiful project. Flutter is still with you?

Yes she is, thank goodness. She was 12 last October and she's fat as a toad now. No way she'd get over those jumps like that now. I know she couldn't get that much air for sure if she was able to. It will kill me to lose her. :(

Dave, that would make a very cool, personal, tribute knife. Thats a pretty amazing dog!

When she was young she was a real athlete and just lived for that agility stuff. I never saw a dog there that seemed to enjoy it more than she did.

They just keep getting better Dave!!! Your wife would have been so proud!

Oh, Dave, I am speechless! That is just beautiful!!! I looove those little shelled critters and always have. Can't begin to count how many I've rescued from the roadways, often right in front of oncoming cars. There's nobody I hate more than creeps who don't even try to avoid them.

God Bless.
Jeff

Plumberdv..another nice knife...and great stories. Leesa is quite the artist. I'll whip my truck off the road in a heartbeat...to snatch up a turtle from the pavement...dogs as well.

:D

with enough spice, they all taste like chicken to me:rolleyes:;)

Cannibal!! They are like my kids to me!:)

I've just talked to Leesa again and I'm sending her two more knives next week to start on. One will be the real ivory 110 that will be done with the elephant theme and the other with Flutter on it. The second cow bone 110 may be too dark to use so I'm also sending the other bone 500 just in case. If she can use the bone 110, I may need to come up with another subject for the 500. Maybe I'll just let her surprise me!

The ivory 110 below.

My remaining bone 110 is the top one. We're up in the air whether or not it will be suitable.
