I have been using the same iPhone 5 for all of my knife pictures the last 3+ years. Not as fine as a dslr but simple and effective enough. Here are some from the last few months, straight from the phone:

Some of the above are lower light and you can see the obvious grain degeneration/pixelation. However, with good light, I think the quality can be good.
 
I'm of the opionion that no knife photographs as well as an Insingo.

This one definately had no editing. Up in the bluffs, I get no service so I couldn't edit it. Again, 5S.

Nothing beats a DSLR with a little editing though:) Taken with a budget-friendly Nikon D40. 3 second exposure taken in the dark, knife was lit with a Nichia 219 flashlight.

Being a designer and photographer I absolutely despise using a cell phone for photos haha :)

But...

Taken with a Motorola Droid Turbo, just resized it so it would fit better on the forum.
