i did some searching but came up w/ nothing. how come sypderco doesnt sell different color FRN scales, just the scales. im fully aware that they are interchanable with other knives of the same model but i dont want a whole new knife. I think it would be neat to have several different colors to chose from. just curious as to why they dont do this.

I think it has to do with inventory and tooling costs.
Plus, I think appearance is a large part of sales and more knives would be bought than if you could just change the scale every so often. Variations can raise interest/sales

I'm positive this has been spoken of before. I think it was on the spyderco forum. Search around for it, see if you can find it. I think it was about replacement parts as well.

I'm sure that at least a part of the reason is they really don't want to encourage people to take their knives apart. From the number of threads I have seen here by people who have messed up their E4/D4 by taking it apart and not getting it back together right, I can't blame Spyderco for discouraging the practice as much as possible.

Sal has said there will be a new model called the Urban which will basically be modular, so the scales can be changed easily.

talking about taking them apart and cant get back together right, that was me just a couple of weeks ago. but thanks to the helpful members here everything is all good.
