Are there any similarities between FRN and Zytel or are they the same.I was searching out some different sites selling spyderco knives some would give a discription the knife handle was Zytel and another site advertising the same knife would say it has FRN handle. Help me understand this mystery.

I don't think that Spyderco uses Dupont Zytel. I think they use another brand. Zytel is a branding designation for Dupont's version.

I wonder why there not advertised as zytel handles as opposed to FRN?

To advertise a product as being something other than what it is, is not only tacky, it's illegal. When we used the Dupont product, such as in the "Q" model, we advertised as such, but actually FRN covers all of the fiberglass reinforced nylon materials, including the Dupont version.

Are they different?

Each plastic manufacturer has their own version of a nylon that will accept fiberglass strands in the injection molding process. They are all a little bit different in some way. Some of them will accept more glass than others. Some are easier to work with, some will handle color differently, etc.

Actually the current USA made Native is made from Dupont Zytel. Our version made in Seki-City, Japan uses another brand of FRN.

Hope that helps.
