All my spydercos are G-10 and I want to give the FRN a try. I already picked out a Dragonfly with the yellow FRN and H1 steel. How does the FRN handle in the hand? How does it hold up under use such as the usual EDC (letter and clam shell opening), work (wire stripping cutting tape, boxes, rope), fishing and the such? The FRN has really got my interest.
Thanks,

Hi WVDave, Spyderco's FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) is strong stuff. I've never read/heard of anyone damaging their FRN handled knife. The textured grip allows a very firm grip especially in wet environments which your H1 Dragonfly was made for (I'm sure you're aware that the H1 steel was made for salt water environments).
I've got the 3 Dragonflies, an original FRN with molded pocket clip, a new one with the wire clip, and the G10/VG10 version you also have. Next on my list is the H1 version you just acquired. they're great little knives for sure.

The newer frn handles with bidirectional texturing are great! It feels a little strange holding such a light knife at first, but they are tough as nails and really lock into your hand. Also, the yellow salts and white sprint runs can be dyed different colors with RIT if you're into that.

I carried a Wayne Goddard for 5 or 6 years as my EDC folder and the FRN held up fine.
Had to stop carrying the blade when it stopped locking open, or I'd still be using it - one of my all time favorite patterns. (and not just from Spyderco, the ergos on that thing were just about perfect for me)

Those knives are designed for working hard. The question is worded a bit strange, "how does FRN hold up to...",
I've read that Spyderco requests a special formulation with extra fiberglass to make sure the handles withstand a lot use over time.

I actually prefer FRN over G-10. I carried the same Delica for well over a decade and used it every day for anything that I needed to cut. It's still going strong.

When I first looked at a spyderco I loved the Ergos but the frn just looked so cheap and flimsy but I loved the native so much I had to buy it to test the frn I chopped through a 2x4 and carved through a foot of the end the frn held up flawlessly

FRN is awesome- I also prefer it to G10. That said I carry other knives like the para 2 a lot because of ergos, steel, etc. but I wish every knife I had was handled in spyderco FRN with the bi-textured handles. They are comfortable, easy to clean, efficient, BOMBPROOF!!!
