black pearl,-- snakewood--st.paddys--stag--crushed seashell--
in my opinion this may be the most versatile pattern issued by gec. thin & light can be carried by executives or the small game hunter & trout fisherman.certainly light for deer but grouse, ducks, rabbits & squirrels also less we forget cardboard boxes & envelopes.

That stag has me drooling, again.
Thanks Dennis, this thread has caused a Billy Joe Royal song to be stuck in my head.

Another nice set as usual Dennis. Those single bladers are pretty sweet. I've never been a huge fan of pearl handles, but the black pearl that GEC has been using is mesmerizing.

Just fantastic! Dennis, all your picture threads make me break the 11th commandment: thou shalt not covet thine neighbour's knife!

Btw, don't dismiss those too quick for deer. I have used a Kershaw pen knife to process hogs to good effect ~ maybe not the bestest choice but good enough ;~)

the black pearl is a looking glass but i.m.o. the best of all the looking glass models since it appears almost solid in scale appearance. also the pearl is safely enclosed in acrylic so wo'nt crack if dropped. i have heard of seasoned brush- buster guides that did deer with a peanut but these guys are true x-perts in the knife use & most of us only do 3 or 4 big ones a year. i prefer a 3 to 4 in. straight for this. field use depends on the man, i've seen ole timers do everything from catfish to deer with medium folders. bear in mind the old guys spent most of their lives doing the majority of tasks w/o machines.

I fully expect to see a post one day that says, "Hi, my name is Dennis Strickland, and, I liked GEC knives so much....I bought the company." ;)

I wouldn't be surprised myself. Maybe he already has and just hasn't made the statement yet. I thought I had problems trying to find places to keep the few knive I have; I'd have to add a room to the house if I had as many GEC's as Dennis does. Actually, I don't have any yet, but one is on the way.

Nice selection there, Dennis.

I find it puzzling that GEC opted to use a cut swedge on the Northfield two-blader, and a simple drawn swedge on the single-blade Northfield. Seems like that would create more work for them without much to show for the effort. You'd think they would have used the drawn swedge on the Tidiouts and the fancier cut version on all of the Northfields.

Come to think of it, nobody's ever seen Dennis and Victor Kiam in the same place at the same time...I'm just sayin'...

He may or may not own the company, yet, but he sure is doing his part to keep them in business.:D Dennis, I always drool when I look at your threads. Beautiful collection you have there.

I'm the proud owner of snakewood #17 single blade. Now ye got me thinkin' bout a 2-blader as well.

"...And I wish I was on that N17....".

The GEC Trapper single blade is one of my favorites.

If you want to get a wicked slicer, check out the Northwoods Scagel version, which are made by GEC and sharpened by Bark River.

Yeah, I know the Scagel association is somewhat unfortunate, and they are expensive, but the knife itself is amazing. (YMMV)

blues is a modest kat but for forum members that have'nt snapped to it; he has a photographic memory. vic kiam was the guy whom bought remington electric razors way back before many of you guys were born.i'm not a rich guy but i have only 3 dogs to worry about, cook most of my meals & pack my lunch on workdays. sometimes i buy shoes & clothes at goodwill. if one is frugal in daily habits he can buy good knives everynow & then. i do wish that some of you would make the 1st move on the new patterns by gec & post a good pic so i would'nt get an old shoe. last comment exempts
rick & wellgoy & joebob & sometimes black mamba.
