From bushcraft to the e.r.

I'm glad the story has a happy ending with you and your dog both being ok! Finding the knife again was just a bonus!

As for my story. I was using one of those folding/locking utility knives removing a thick layer of plastic/rubber type stuff from around a steel bar. I made a stupid move and it cut through a section a lot easier then I had thought (this is after an hour of cutting at this crap). Anyhow, blade slipped and ran along the bar and right into my other hand. Nobody was home at the time and I was beeling pretty bad, didn't want to drive myself so waited an hour for my sister to come pick me up. spent about 3hrs bleeding in the ER, doc ended up putting 16 stiches total in my left thumb. The cut started along the finger nail and runs the entire length of my thumb, and then the blade had popped out the other side. I no longer have any feeling on the inside of my thumb - so when I'm holding a beer it feels like its going to fall out of my hand! Oh, and the doc didnt realize the blade had come out the other side the way he had my hand wrapped up, so he ended up doing the last 4 stiches without freezing me up, that was real nice of him.

No one these days is a fan of knives, until they need one.

Funny, the very same can be said about attorneys. :)

I once nearly severed my thumb with a kitchen knife about 15 years ago. Probably needed stitches considering the scar. There may or may not have been alcohol involved.

Professor.

I dont goto the hospital anymore unless i'm ripped open bad and i'm squirting blood. I keep a good medical kit in my pack, a larger kit in my car, and then an even larger more diverse kit at home.

Same here, I hate hospitals.

I axed a kitchen knife into a finger trying to impress while intoxicated :D its a brilliant idea at the time for you and your friends, afterwards you say "what the hell was I thinking".

Millions of people get "attacked" by knives each year....I can't understand
why we just don't ban those rebels! :D I mean, what have I ever done
to a knife....well I guess batonning could be taken as an assault. Maybe
their just getting back at us! :D
